i just bought a new set of graphite Tommy Armour Silver Scot's @ Golftown, on impulse. you know, they have those manager's specials on the fold up tables.

they were cheap($200), and i've been wanting to try graphite. anywho, just tried them at the range and what a difference. the club speed increase is awesome, especially for me because i don't really have a full swing, more like 7/8 max. i would say i easily picked up a club and a half with these babies. i'll give them a go at a golf course tomorrow for further testing.

yea i've always wanted graphite, but kinda expensive to reshaft my clubs and to buy a new set right now doesn't make senes my clubs are kinda newish.

i have a smooth slower tempo so graphite would be awesome, but i just reshafted w/ rifle project x flighted 5.0's in my irons and so far they are pretty nice.

cheap set for graphite though holy cow the graphite probably cost 200 bucks.

i used graphite when i was figuring out my swing, and once i got it dialed and started to speed it up, i switched to steel.

5:20 am, off to Furry Creek in a few, :D.

the_rickster 03-30-2008 09:17 AM

i landed it within inches off the tee shot on #10... otherwise, not a good time at furry creek :( but that could have been fatigue... i didn't get to sleep til 7am and tee time was noon.

the_rickster 03-31-2008 01:05 PM

buddy bailed on our 7:34am tee time @ northlands for wednesday morning... anyone want his spot? pm me.

N.V.M. 03-31-2008 01:32 PM

cough cough, am i coming down with something? :Puke:

the_rickster 03-31-2008 01:53 PM

oh man the weather is gettin really really freakin nice now too. hopefully the sun holds up the next few weeks and we'll have a good good spring.

+1 to skip work for golf. gotta take advantage of the good weather.

the_rickster 04-01-2008 10:41 AM

anyone know of a range that opens before 8am?

also, anyone been to TAKaya in north van... i might swing by there today, but not if it's complete shit.

N.V.M. 04-01-2008 11:28 AM

i was considering taking the morning off and going to Northlands, but too much frost around. they didn't let anyone golf until almost 10am today, tomorrow looks the same.

and Takaya, i go twice a week. i'm even on their webpage(top pic, white shorts, white socks), http://www.takayagolfcentre.com/ ...haha!

they have an online deal. get 4 buckets for the price of three. print it out and show it to them.

bkw 04-01-2008 11:34 AM

oh nice man, i'd go but north van is too far for me.

yea frost is a bitch especially at this time of year b/c the weather is so nice after a few hours.

some ranges at golf courses open pretty much at first tee time, which is about 7am abouts now.

if you find the coupon is outdated, print it anyway, they will honour it. they are well aware that their webmaster is slow at updating it. and if you get their before 6:00 p.m. it's 90 balls per bucket :)

the_rickster 04-01-2008 02:22 PM

i'm not sure if its going to frost over, the temp. looks alright for tonight, but then again i'm an optimist so i'm gonna stick with it. kyle told me that there are no bookings after 7:34 so i'll be the last group out for a bit. should be nice if everything works out.

Takaya: just got back, there was a dude there with a swing tracking system that is pretty neat... it uses sensors at each stall then sensors out in the range with sticks in the ground and tracks your actual yardage on a screen beside your stall. it's super easy to use and also pretty neat -- hes letting patrons use it for free right now, so i'd suggest for people to go try it out!

someone should come!!!!!

bkw 04-02-2008 08:29 AM

that sounds pretty awesome man i totally want to try that. will he start charging in the future? or is it just a trial thing for now? i dont know if i can make my way up there in the near future.

did you end up playing? i think it was pretty cold this morning. not alot of cloud cover too..so that doesn't help.

the_rickster 04-02-2008 09:27 AM

well he told me a bit. his plan right now is to run it for free to get feedback and to really dial in the system, takaya isn't making any money from it and neither is he, but it gives him a chance to really make it work for him before he markets it.

we actually went pretty in depth with the direction of the company and his plans to market the system, so i hope it works well for him.

the thing about it is that its so easy to use. no worries about pressing a ton of buttons or having to search around, it keeps track of all your shots and at the end of your session you can print out a stats page.

i didn't end up playing, i couldn't get anyone to commit to the time and when i called in this morning the dude told me i'd be going alone... which sucks on a course like that.
that being said, im going through major golf withdrawals right now, so if anyone wants to make any plans to go, pm me. i'll probably do northlands next week, same time maybe different day.

the week after next, im going to be on the island, can anyone suggest any decent courses over there? i'll be in victoria, nanaimo, courtenay, campbell river and port alberni.

Ax2-Y 04-06-2008 08:55 AM

Northlands, good choice ;)

the_rickster 04-07-2008 03:14 PM

i'm trying to choose between Cordova Bay GC & Olympic View GC in Victoria... has anyone here played them? tell me your thoughts.

bkw 04-07-2008 05:34 PM

i played cordova bay once long long time ago, from what i rememebr its pretty decent. some of it is in trees kinda like hazelmere, and some of its wide open with water like mayfair lakes. i've only played two island courses that one and royal colwood (i think thats what its called) colwood had good greens, small w/ some deceiving breaks, kind of like pitt meadows for those of you who've played there.

the_rickster 04-08-2008 08:24 AM

i'm planning on playing one course in victoria then another up island somewhere.

bkw 04-08-2008 05:01 PM

me and the_rickster are playing northview - canal tmrw (wednesday) morning at 748am its $45 and we need a fourth player, anyone interested? shoot me a pm!

N.V.M. 04-08-2008 06:59 PM

haha! we booked that for sunday 7 am. got all the notes for all the holes on my PDA.check. got the course downloaded on my GPS.check.

don't you guys work? lol

the_rickster 04-08-2008 09:21 PM

my schedule is subject to tee time.

so if anyone wants to be the 4th let us know, we have space for carpool

N.V.M. 04-11-2008 05:56 AM

how'd it go? any tips on that course would be appreciated. (i carry a pda with hole hole descriptions for the courses i play/will play.)
