I did this loop. Left downtown at about 9:30AM, got back in town about 11:45PM. Made stops at Hope and Lilloet for food. Also stopped at Porteau Cove, Joffre Lakes, and other various pulloffs for views.

We were running late due to a detour through Mission to hit Dewdney Trunk road and took the 12 instead of Highway 1 > 99 to save an hour going from Lytton to Lilloet. The road surface on the 12 is brutal even in an IS, and I've heard that 99 especially by Pavillion is a ton of fun.

The leg from Lilloet to Pemberton is an absolute riot. Tons of elevation changes, sharp corners, and switchbacks. The second half has great scenery (make sure to stop by Joffre Lakes) and has an fun downhill section if you have the brakes for it.

My recommendation would be to either take something with even better chassis than an IS F-Sport, or take something more comfortable than an IS F-Sport. When taking the 12 and Duffey Lake road at an aggressive pace, it felt a bit underdamped. At the same time, the ride was a little rough for the long drive, and the ventilated seats not very well ventilated.

Though I had some criticisms for the car, I came away incredibly impressed by IS's nonetheless. Easy to drive if you're just loafing along, but if you ask for more it wakes up and feels like an E46. Firm brake pedal that was easy to modulate, good feedback through the steering but not too heavy, and pretty fun to toss around.. it felt incredibly at home driving at 6-7/10ths on the Sea to Sky.

may be it's a completely different experience on 2-wheels, but the duffy lake loop in a car is overrated IMO

Lillooet is bland and ugly

only real highlights past sea-to-sky are pockets between whistler and duffy lake and short stretches of the fraser canyon

haven't explored many BC roads but I like hwy 4 on the island to ucluelet/tofino

some of my favourites outside of BC

Zion Mt. Carmel, Utah

Esterel Massif, France

Taroko Gorge, Taiwan

Bump. Any new roads anyone found in or near the province?

I'll contribute.

WA State:
Route 20 (North Cascade Highway) from Rockport to Okanogan. Lots of nice scenery along the way. Winthrop is a neat little town.
Lake Whatcom Blvd. Reminds me a bit of Marine Dr. in West Van but longer.
Route 542 from Kendall to Mt Baker.

This is Westside road, aka Tail of the Ogopogo. Tourism Kelowna describes it as comparable to Tail of the Dragon.

Thanks! Sounds like I need to check out Lake whatcom Blvd.

I feel like within a 2 hour radius, Washington has a lot more to offer than what we have. Chuckanut is great as well on the other side of Bellingham.

Went on a drive on Sea to Sky a couple of days ago.

Someone living in BC over at RX8Club informed me there were more cops patrolling around, but never once did my Valentine One go off with a laser warning.

I did it last year in a BMW X3. Needless to say, driving alone in my RX-8 is much more fun.

I do this loop quite often..

Chilliwack - Hope - Spence’s Bridge - Merritt - Aspen Grove - Princeton - Chilliwack

The sections between Spence’s Bridge/Merritt & Aspen Grove/Princeton are two of my favourite in BC. Full of twisties with a few higher speed sections, rarely any traffic.

Hwy 7 past Agassiz all the way to Hope is quite fun. Same thing on the way back.

Not sure if anybody still looks here, but I just did the south Vancouver Island loop from Sooke to Port Renfrew, to Lake Cowichan, and Duncan. I think it's only a few years old as they recently paved it in the last maybe 5 years?

https://vancouverisland.travel/road-...-circle-route/

Fantastic loop that took me 9 hours not rushing and plenty of food and beach stops. Google maps says it can be done in 3-4 hours non stop.

The Sooke to Port Renfrew and then to Lake Cowichan are the highlights. Its recently paved to promote tourism on the route however it is SNEAKILY bumpy at places.

They were logging roads and I guess there are parts that shiftes or could not be smoothed out. There are bumps that look innocent but bottomed out my suspension.

But besides those sections, the road itself is spectacular. Half of it is out of cell range so prepare accordingly.

I will be heading to Campbell River to pick up a car tomorrow. From Nanaimo, should I be taking 19 or 19A? 19A/Island Hwy S being right by the water, I suppose is quite a bit slower?

Also are there any fun detours I should be making on this day trip? Road or otherwise

conservatively it's 2-3hours each way, worth it for the scenic drive (but not jaw-dropping), i would certainly do it because the weather will be perfect

if you're coming back via swartz bay definitely go metchosin/sooke area if you got some time to kill..also prospect lake rd is kinda wacky! but should really go speed limit hahah

Those are definitely great to save for next trip. But the gf is gonna be driving with me on the way back so probably not gonna make the 3 hour trip from Campbell River to Metchosin haha

I looked into the Nanaimo area and Nanaimo River Rd looks promising, but on street view it looks like it's all gravel after Nanaimo Lakes. Will report back.

yeah if google map directions is guiding you away from what looks like fun curvy roads even when you try to kinda force it, there's a chance it's a gated logging road

Giving this a kick. I'm renting a Boxster next week for a few days and am looking for some recommendations near Vancouver. I figure Sea to Sky is still a good bet and I might try to make it up to Duffey Lake road but that might be just a bit too long of a day for me (gotta be home for kid's bedtime).

Any other suggestions for a leisurely drive out of Vancouver where I can be back home around dinner time? Is #7 to Agassiz/Hope worthwhile? Is hopping over to the Sunshine Coast doable/worthwhile in 6-7 hours?

Harrison is nice, you could go all the way out to Agassiz and then back on hwy1. I wouldn't do the Sunshine coast unless you had a day to do it.

If the highways are open, one of my favourite roads is the stretch of Hwy 3 from Hope to Keremeos. It's roughly a 4 - 5 hr drive each way, depending on how fast you go. The turns, elevation changes, and scenery are just awesome.

But with the wildfire situation in Hope being an ongoing thing, it might not be possible for you this time around.
