If you ask anyone in HK who buy cars during their carshow, I bet 10/10 don't test drive before placing a deposit in Ocean Terminal or Festival Walk!

Different philosophies of living.

only salesperson I will deal with at RIchmond is Gurp. The other Asian saleppl didn't even approach my wife and I ( we're both Chinese ), but Gurp did and he made a sale that day. We went back to him when we bought our second vehicle b/c he gave us a price that no other acura dealer could even match. They are the only acura dealer I know that is not on commission. I went to Burrard and lougheed and they both told me they were on commission and could not match the price. THey said if you can get that price, buy it.

We will only deal with Gurp. He even helped a friend of ours who was going to buy a mazda3. Got her a lower price than the dealership she was at. Got her the next model up cheaper than the base model she was offered.

I don't like Gxxp, because he pretend to be helpful ... only until delivery of the vehicle...

can u let me know which acura this dealership is? b/c like 99% of them are commision based, b/c whats the point of selling 30 cars a month if theres no commision

But you usually won't get the deal of buying from showroom than carshow for new cars.

there isn't anything wrong with putting down the deposit before test driving.
i am sure people are just pissed at the attitude of the sales.
they could have asked for deposit in a more polite manner

so im pathetic b/c i dont test drive cars before i buy it?
u can have your opinion, but a car is a car, i dont track it, so just daily commuting in a car that i like is enuff for me. Im sure every car out there drives fine, even a 10K Kia, b/c they have done enuff R&D to make it acceptable.

its not b/c you don't test drive.
just because you don't care about how it actually drives on daily commute, doesnt mean other people dont care. After all, some people are stuck with their car for 7,8, even 10 years!

sometimes you need to drive it to get a feel. These are very subjective and cannot be decided just from other people's experience. For example, sometimes the steering wheel is too tight for ladies; sometimes the steering wheel is too loose for men. Or, the audio system might be too crappy.. the sound insulation might be cheap, and the build quality might suck.

TRD3000GT 03-28-2008 11:33 PM

Testdriving the car is necessary. Internet research does not fully help in reality.

One time I was looking at the Audi A4 and everything went well even sitting in the car inside the showroom but not when I testdrove the car. My right knee and the center console don't get along. :( The car does not have enough room for my knee and is touching the center console while driving. Because of this little uncomfortable problem, I cannot buy this car even though almost everything other things meet my needs. I forgot the salesperson name but he is cool and didn't bug me to close the deal. Just in case anyone wants to know, this is Audi at Richmond Automall.

OT: reminds me of an asian version of that comedian tv personality from V for Vendetta who got executed for having a copy of the Koran in his basement.

Good for them. What does that have to do with buying a car over here?

I think test driving is a must unless you really don't care how the car drives and how the interior looks and feel. Even if you have done all your research and have agreed upon purchasing the vehicle, you could end up regreting just because you thought it would be as satisfying as you thought it should be.

Just an example here:

So if i bought a civic thinking i had a great car, but ended up not being satisfied because my back starts hurting everytime i drive it. reviews may have said they are comfortable to drive, but I actually found out it isn't because my body specifically doesn't go well with the car's driver seat and suspension system.

Now I'm screwed because i can't refund the car for the price i paid for it.

JDM_DC2 04-07-2008 12:08 PM

i definitly recommemend buying from Chris at lougheed acura. We've bought 3 cars from him! One of the nicest guys you'll ever meet and gives a great deal. The manager at the shop is also really nice and dont forget.. always bargain with some decent lowballs (not crazy ones) theyre quite flexable and can sometimes include upgrades.

^ It's public info from their own website, so I don't think it matters.

Their whole sales team is here:

Leonard helped me get the TSX but I didn't exactly like dealing with him. I've posted my story about him before. I'll be buying from North Shore Acura next time I buy an Acura.
