Cause if h approaches 0, then the denominator of the first term in the brackets would be 1/3, therefore 1/3 minus 1/3 would be zero...
I'm not positive though, i remember having the most trouble with limits of all the stuff in that course for some reason even though its supposed to be easier...

the real calc stuff doesn't really start until your next unit you'll be doing, which is derivatives..
