i worked at a call centre and the calls being recorded means jack shit. All it is there for is the quality assurance people who score you on calls to use. But they can't pick any recording, it's just generically picked. So when I hung up on someone the person couldn't call in and ask the manager to listen to that call, if it just happened to land on that call while they were scoring me that's the only way it would ever be found out. Hope that makes sense.

i went directly to retentions by cancelling my plan and leave for mobilicity. the guy was nice and spent 30mins just selling me plans and explaining things to me. basically he's saying how rogers is good for roaming, reliability, speed and stuff that you would already expect from rogers that mobi can't offer.

so in the end, they could only offer me 200daytime, unlimited network calling, early evenings, caller id, voice mail, 2500txt, 500mb for $57.50.

i think for anyone else that heavily relies on quality, they would stick with rogers. for my own personal needs which is just calling and texting within vancouver, i can't find a reason to stick with rogers. they rep even admitted to me that the mobi plan is hard to beat and he couldn't seem to find good points and keep me with rogers.

and wtf with the early cancellation fee? it's like an extra $50+ for early cancellation? my plan ends on february20, 2012 and if i cancel it today, it's $135???

price to pay if you want to breach your contract.

Fido, Rogers and Telus would find it difficult to match Wind and Mobilicity's plans. Comes down to reliability. Good to have them though to give the other carriers competition.

Added data now as of this morning. Need advice on what I did. Some backround information is that I had a business plan from my mom (EPP plan) and it took us a while to get the price we want so there are some notes on looking for managers etc etc, signed with rogers officially for 1 year only. Before was prepaid Rogers for 2 years so I don't have a lot of bargaining chips left

Orig plan- $28/month
- 150 weekday mins
- unlim weekends and after 6pm
-voicemail
- caller id
- unlim any kind of messaging

Now I added data 6gb for $30. Sole purpose to add 6gb instead of 500mb for $25 is because I don't want to rely on wifi at all and don't need to watch my usage. Also I will be watching youtube videos because I work at a office (you know how offices are) with only landlines and no wifi whatsoever

Now its at $62.80/month. Good or bad? And if its bad, what can I tell them as of now to change it to a more worthy price

I'm $55 + tax

and my plan is 200 weekday, unlimited network calling, 2500 texts.
Same 6gb as you.

So I think you should be able to get them to at least bring it down a bit more.

^ I was offered the same $55+tax but also with caller id, early evenings and voicemail. maybe you just left it out of your post.

the $55 seems to be the best offer they can give for anyone renewing a contract. still left them for mobi tho.

baoturbo, did you already renew your contract? if you did, good luck negotiating any further because you basically lost all leverage.

^yea i did renew it. Both $25 and $30 had to renew the contract according to the sales rep. I didn't have leverage to start with, and a bunch of notes on my account, only leverage was I am with them for 1 year under contract. It was the best I could squeeze out of the rep and the most he was willing to offer I could tell. I didn't want to rage out and push it farther or make ridiculous demands.

once Wind/Mobi gets their bids on the 700mhz auction, then we will see robelus will have to price match Wind/Mobi because their excuse of being more reliable will be no more..

2012!

I imagine that mobi is offering these ridiculous plans and extended it for that very reason.

Get loads of paid subscribers to up their bids to get more frequencies.

Rogers has definitely clamped down on retention offers. I've called retentions 6 times in the past 2 weeks to "negotiate". Normally i would get lucky and wear down one CSR enough for some additional credits, this time it looks like the mandate is coming from the very top to offer minimal credits.

Original Plan

$50 - Unlimited Voice / Text North America
$15 - 150mb data
$7 - CID
$8 - Fees & Taxes
------------------------
$80 - Total

New Plan

$50 - Unlimited Voice / Text North America
$30 - 6Gb data
$7 - CID
$8 - Fees & Taxes
-$5 - Credit
------------------------
~$85 - Total

I tried to get them to credit CID. They wouldn't budge. I resigned for 3 years as I got a 4S as well.

^his is expensive because he has caller+ld calls/text+unlim voice.

They probably clamped you hard because you wanted the 4s and they know you want it, therefore, not a lot of leverage. The caller id is such a bitch to deal with and they know it

Yea Rogers has definitely come down on their retention offers which is exactly the opposite of what you should do but oh wells their call. Before reps had mose flexibility to offer credits etc but now they are limited and can only offer certain credits depending on what plan you have and a whole bunch of other shitty restrictions.

It sucks that they've tightened up the credits and perks, but what can we do? I don't have a landline and I live in a concrete high rise so I need dependable service. Sure Mobilicity is offering unlimited everything at 30 bucks, but for 10 bucks more a month (which is what I'm paying with Rogers), I'd rather have more reliable service when I'm on the road and at home. I'm sure I'm not alone here.

It's unfortunate that you're not alone only because if people had no reason to stick with rogers, I'm sure they would have to rethink their retention strategies.

Can u elaborate a little about your unlim call/text north america?

Does that mean you can call anywhere in North America as long as you are in Rogers network, regardless of city? (Vancouver or Toronto for example)

I wanted to upgrade to iphone 4 now. They said its $200+all the crap but I won't get to HUP in a while. If I buy the iphone 4 separately for $400-500, I can still HUP in the future. I'm planning to HUP and avoid the hassle of finding a seller and price bargain. Advice?

Correct. I have the same plan from Rogers. No roaming/long distance if I call anywhere in Canada/US as long as I'm in Canada on the Rogers network.

Picture messaging isn't included in the plan though.
