My final Rogers bill was $604.03, when I ported out a month ago. That was final month's pro-rated charges + the $500 (+tax) ECF.
I weighed the pros and cons of porting out to a different carrier prior to doing so. Researched my needs vs what was available from either Mobilicity/Wind, Koodo, Virgin, Bell, Telus. I looked at Fido but opted away from that route - still Rogers - since I don't want anything to do with Rogers ever again.
Parts of my issues with Rogers weren't just in my bill; inconsistent quality of their network was a major factor. Texts consistently failing on sending, calls failing, calls being unable to connect, dropping, poor data speeds... all factors.
Sure, I lose $560 up front, but over the course of 28 months left on my contract, I would be spending at least $1100 more than what I will now, and that's with generous estimates of my usage. Conservative estimates of my usage mean I'll be saving ~$1350-1400 vs what my monthly costs would have been over those 28 months.
I was willing to cancel and pay the costs of leaving Rogers. Not everyone would be.
Incidentally, I went to Koodo, and brought my unlocked Samsung Galaxy S Captivate as my phone. Unlocked it myself, months back, for free.

hmmm but is the rogers network services really that much worst than the other networks you listed? 604dollars which is 16dollars a month savings over 3 years if you just stick with rogers.

Yes, they tax the ECF.
As far as what I was going to be paying...
With tax for the next 14 months would have been $75.43/mo
With tax for the final 14 months would have been $104.55/mo
As far as what I pay now, and given the same data usage as I had with Rogers...
$50.40/mo all in.
$1108.50 over 28 months, assuming I never send a picture message (and I do actually send picture messages, which add $0.50/msg with Rogers).
I've also been sending quite a few international texts to Hong Kong, so again, more fees with Rogers had I stayed with them.
Between the extra cost and the unreliable network, I'm more than happy with my decision to jump ship and say goodbye to Rogers after 7+ years.
I did call them and try to get my plan shaved down a little, prior to just going ahead and porting out to Koodo. Why Koodo? Because I like to snowboard and travel, and I want a phone that I'm not roaming on the moment I'm outside the GVRD.

My phone is still under warranty, its been acting up for the last few months. I didn't want to send it in for warranty work and get stuck with a regular phone with no data use and still be paying for data on my account.
They offered to do a hardware upgrade, but they are going to charge me $15 a month for 19 months, because that's when I'm eligible for a free HW upgrade. So that came out to be $285 plus the cost of the phone I wanted.
It seemed to me that they don't care about customer loyalty, and for the shitting phone that they are selling, they tried to blame the dropped calls and the network failure on the phone itself.
I'm still thinking about actual porting out to Bell.
Or should I called again and talk to a different agent?

out of curiosity, I browsed through the first 10 pages of this thread.
I doubt Rogers will EVER offer those plans again. Damn their new business strategy.

Sure they have a new business model but when they start seeing less revenue they'll have to re-think their strategies. They really give no reason for a customer to stay with them when the other providers have huge signs advertising paying LESS for MORE.
They MUST be noticing an exponential amount of customers jumping ship.

Believe it or not, Rogers fucking attracted more customers to their Fido/Chat-R brands. Rogers Q3 2011 results: Subscriber base increases by 161,000 (mainly Prepaid), now totals 9,288,000 | MobileSyrup.com Quote:
Nadir Mohamed, President and CEO of Rogers said “Rogers delivered a balanced set of financial and subscriber results in the third quarter, with continued growth in the face of an extremely competitive environment. The strength of our asset mix, combined with a focused execution on our priorities – wireless data growth, customer retention and managing our cost structure – enabled Rogers to generate continued strong margins and free cash flow while increasing the amount of cash returned to shareholders by double digits year-over-year.”

Prepaid isn't really conducive to long term consistency, though. A prepaid customer can jump ship or leave without penalty at any time, and doesn't have the same ARPU that a post-paid on the Rogers brand would.
I do hope they wake up and do something about it, but in all honesty, you're likely to see the same plans from the same Big3 conglomerate that has the same objective, with little variation between.
As far as Bell... word is they're giving $10 credit per month for 36 months ($360) to port your number into Bell for a 3 year term.

This thread is discouraging, I'm happy with paying my 60 bucks a month but once my credits expire in a year and a bit it'll probably be over 80. Posted via RS Mobile |

So I was lurking around Hofo's rogers retention thread and found out that someone on that forum was in the same situation as a few people here.
Basically Rogers didnt honour what was promised when the contract was signed.
The guy on the forum escalated the complaint to CCTS and someone from Rogers with more authority than the normal customer relations called him back to settle things. retention plans> look what i got! - Page 52
Post # 778.
Interesting.........

The thing I dont understand is why rogers employee's care so fucking much?
I worked at bell for a few months as a CSR, and I pretty much gave what ever people wanted all the time, and everyone was super happy and I was signing contracts left right and center, just by giving a bunch of shit for free.
I never got in trouble nor did any supervisor ever talk to me about it, so why do these people try so fucking hard?
Right when I quit bell I went on all my friends' accounts and loaded up everything for free on their plans.
my GF pays 30$ a month for unlimited everything including data,
haha I wish I knew someone who was working at rogers.

i dont see why any of you should have to beg and plead for credits or deals. If Rogers should be fucking kissing your ass to stay on.
I'm not in a rush to throw money at any business.
you want my cash? work for it.

hmmm.........this is what a RFD member recently got from Robbers. You think its because of the christmas holiday spirit that the reps are giving in, or this guy is mad lucky. Quote:
This is what i currently have after I renegotiated after my 3 years was up, before taking the hardware upgrade option for the iPhone 4S.
Key thing I find is that you have the most bargaining power after your contact is up, and also that you will need to call in multiple times as different reps will offer extremely different packages. I feel like it's like those "Beat the Bank" radio games where you have to keep trying to get more, but at some point you'll hit a rep which will give you a much worse offer than the previous person.
Set aside some time and patience as this took me on and off maybe about 3 days worth of calling to get, but i feel it was worth it.
In summary, 300 minutes, unlimited incoming, iPhone Value Pack, and 6GB of data.
