Rogers device subsidies 101: Choose the option that

Long story short. If you get a subsidized phone from Rogers you will still have to pay if you cancel early. If you're using your own phone you and you want to cancel you only pay the $12.50 admin fee.

Not much difference really. Most users will get a subsidized phone if they sign a contract.

I just negotiated with Rogers yesterday and Im pretty happy with what I pulled off:

300 Weekday min
Evening & Weekends @ 6pm
My 10 Canadawide
Unlimited incoming
1 Gb data
Unlimited text/picture messaging
CID/Voicemail

$54.13 + HST

And I got the Galaxy Nexus for $50. This is a 36 month term.

I have a really good plan I negotiated about 1.5 years ago and I'm wondering what does Rogers Retentions do with those "killer" plans (I have voice and data=$30 all in. Will they at least match the plan if I want to keep renewing it or am I looking at price jump?

Guess I'll be looking at another provider when my contract is up if it jumps close to double what I'm paying now.

Basically they want to add another bs $12.50 on top of what your fee is for cancelling contract...?

From what I heard, it's high speed data on your mobile devices that is even faster than what broadband carriers can provide on their home internet network.

LTE (telecommunication) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Essentially, figure LTE speeds are capable of a theoretical 100Mbit/s downstream, 50Mbit/s upstream. Realistically, you're more likely to see ~30-40Mbit/s downstream, 15-20Mbit/s upstream.

3G/HSPA+ networks, most of them in civic areas will give you speeds of ~5-10Mbit/s downstream, .5-1Mbit/s upstream.

You must be referring to the "4G" that carriers are dubbing their phones, its actually not real 4G. In fact it is just HSPA+, an evolved version of HSPA which is 3G.

LTE is mobile broadband which can be considered 4G.

Its because before you could upgrade after 2 years into your 3 year contract. Then they changed it to 2.5 years into. Now they changed it just recently, like mid May, to 3 years...

Yup, the 6 month thing they offered you is like the "grace-period." Basically allowing you to do the old 30 month policy instead of the new 36 month policy.

Early Upgrade Fee + Administration Fee(or was it called Activation Fee) + Phone Price + taxes

Your case it sounds like: $39 + $35 + $199 + taxes

I am unsure what the Reservation Fee is because I've never preordered/reserved a phone before.

Or call retentions? I was able to waive my Early Upgrade Fee as well as the Activation Fee.

So after fifteen mins of waiting and another ten mins talking the retention department asking about cancelling my contract and porting my number to wind. Keep in mind I still have two more years to go in my three year contract, the rep then said I'd have to pay $500 to cancel.

What were you expecting? Of course they're going to charge you an ECF with 2 years left on your contract.
