Anyone have the EOS M?

Thinking of grabbing the kit with the 22mm (35mm after crop) and flash.

I picked one up when they were on sale.

Great little camera for the price and after the firmware update.

Both M lenses are very sharp I find. I bought the 22mm off eBay for $100 bnib.

How do you find the interface? I sho0t almost always in aperture priority, so I'm really curious how easy it is to switch aperture and ISO.

I'm coming from the D80, and I'm looking for something smaller as I'm a casual photographer. According to DxOMarks, the EOS-M is just a tad better optically.

One thing I really hated on my D80 was that the metering tend to go all over the place with highlights being blown often. Do you get that with the EOS-M?

Interface is ok. Simple really but I've been shooting Canon for a while now.

Very easy to shoot in aperture priority mode. The dial will only change the aperture and you can get to ISO with a tap on the screen.

I haven't had it really blow out highlights on AV mode and if anything it might underexposed a bit.

Oddly enough, I find the little EOS M sharper than the 2 7D's I used to have even though it's likely to be the same sensor.

No need man. Just download it from the Canon site and follow instructions.

Very simple to do! Doubles the AF speed/acquisition on the M!

One last question, how is the focusing on it?

I heard even with the new update, it's still slow compared to the NEX, X100s and E-PL5.

I tend to take photos of stills, so it's okay, but for moving objects and street photography like humans or vehicles, is it fast enough?

is the EOS M good? i've read a bunch of comments about how the focus is too slow? and that's why they're available with steep discounts? (anyone know how slow "slow" is?)

considering my 808 is broken i wouldnt mind getting an actual camera

I watched a DigitalRevs comparison video, it said about 0.4s?

It's very tempting for $400.. same sensor as 7D/60D in a small size. My preference is the E-PL5 because of the faster autofocus and the hotshoe EVF, but it's a bit more expensive.

...that doesn't seem good enough, not compared to most m4/3 and Sony cameras.

I have high hopes that Canon learns from their mistakes and the MK2 is better. The other systems are currently more mature and are starting to produce very high quality glass, extremely fast auto-focus and...better looking, more functional bodies.

The only reason is to buy it is because it's cheap and because you can use Canon lenses but I've got high hopes for the Speedbooster Canon EF to m4/3.

Chiming into the mirrorless discussion, I have the Olympus E-P3 with 17mm and I love it. It's the perfect size and I literally bring it everywhere with me now. The photo quality is also great, and the focus speed is phenomenal. The touch screen is perfect for street photography as well, as you can take photos pretty discreetly. I got mine for $400 shipped with the 17mm, so I can't complain at all.

If you're wanting to switch over from your DSLR, I would look into the OM-D EM-5. Such a nice camera, and I know many people who have made it their full time setup while their DSLRs collect dust. All the positives I stated about the E-P3, and more.

Hope that was a little helpful, I'm just a casual photographer like you but that's my 2C!

Just looked in the ORIGINAL photo thread here on RS, it's sad that so many super talented individuals aren't around here anymore like bluish, Dottie, azn angel, Salar, etc. Domani and Levitron show up every so often.

We gained a lot of new people but can't help but be nostalgic about the days when we were all learning about digital photography, many of us shooting with point-n-shoots (I had a Canon G2) before a couple of us dived into the DSLR pool with the original Digital Rebel.

And what happened to all the women around here? Girls on RS are few and far between but still. This wasn't such a male dominated forum back then.

The EOS M might be a smaller better camera. The X100s is a kind of luxury.

It's like cars on Top Gear. Sometimes a car is the better car but you don't want it as much as you want the car that's...worse.

Photoshop

If Canon is like Nikon, they might also have a codec pack so you can open it in Windows Picture Viewer.

EDIT: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/suppor...codec_software

Does anyone have any input on Photography Courses? I'm looking to apply for some this fall during my spare time (I only work 9-16 days a month with my current career). Google has led me towards Langara's Photography program. They even have online courses which would work great for me as I travel for work, meaning I could do it even when out of town. Input on this program, as opposed to any others out there in the Vancouver area? First it is just for recreational purposes, but if I enjoy it this program seems to allow me to continue education to complete the whole certification with no time limit.

dont know if you guys have noticed, but I always keep my eye on the big box store flyers for price checks on mostly the Rebel line of Canons

back a month before Xmas last year i bought my T4i kit for $569 [which still is an amazing price]

however now with the release of the T5i they have seemingly wiped out marketing the 4i, i NEVER see it in flyers anymore and the stupid 3i is going for like $559!

it would seem that because the 5i is virtually the same as the 4i they tried to skip over promoting it and strictly stick with pushing the 3i and 5i, just a funny thing i've noticed over the past few months
