Bought an X-T1 on the weekend. I don't even have any Fuji lenses yet...just bought a EF-FX adapter and using all my M42 manual glass.

Carrying it and 3 lenses around compared to my 5D3 kit is like carrying NOTHING AT ALL

...nothing at all...
...nothing at all...

m3thods 03-02-2015 02:57 PM

Yep welcome to mirrorless land!

I have the same adapters for my Nikon macro and a few m42 50ish lenses. I'll admit I don't use it as much as I thought I would, but for those 3 lenses I paid the same that a Fuji 60 macro would be. Can't complain at all.

As luck would have it my wrist strap arrived in the mail today too

nice strap, I have a joby one that I use with my x-t1 and it works well. I thought about getting the leather ones from Broadway but I think I'm good for now

Ronin 03-02-2015 08:40 PM

Let me know if you want anything from Broadway. :D

Where can I find incase camera bags in Vancouver?

Hehe 04-07-2015 11:41 PM

New toys arrived.

Sony A7ii and 35mm F1.4ZA

Pictures will follow later this week when I have time to go out.

Hehe 04-08-2015 09:43 PM

Took the kid out today...

A quick review... focus is fast on this 35mm. I had the Nikon 35G and Canon 35L before, and I never thought they had good focusing speed. The Sony ZA is definitely faster. (I had D700/800 and 5D/6D as body)

Love the 3D pop that it carries; a signature on Zeiss lenses. I guess Sony managed to copy that as well or Zeiss really shared a trick or two with Sony rather than simply licensing the name.

It's very sharp wide open in the center from the few shots I took.

Color rendition and contrast are superb. Definitely a lens I'd recommend for any Sony FE/E mount users if you are looking a fast glass.

Also did a few shots at F4~F8 to see the maximum resolution. It seems to peak at around F4~F5.6. I didn't seen much improvement afterwards and diffraction starts to kick in at F11 onward.

the A7R II was announced today

Quote:

which features a new 42.4 megapixel backside illuminated CMOS sensor that can shoot at up to ISO 102,400.

Sony says the new camera has a new shutter that reduces vibration by up to 50 percent, and it has the Silent Shooting mode from the other A7 models. The autofocus system has 399 focal plane phase detection points, which work with 25 contrast detect points to focus 40 percent faster than the original A7R.

The A7R II also benefits from the same 5-axis image stabilization system that first debuted in the A7 II

The viewfinder on the A7R II has been updated to a XGA OLED unit with more magnification than before, and the camera has the same Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity of Sony's other A7 models. Sony says this camera was designed to provide photographers with both high-sensitivity and high-resolution shooting without having to make a compromise as they had to in the past.

i've been thinking about grabbing an A7R, my skills aren't anywhere near there but i'd like one :D

and now with the A7R II out i'm hoping prices drop further on the A7R

Hehe 06-11-2015 07:22 PM

The a7RII is such a beast.

Bar none the best FF body if the AF lives up to the claim, well, unless you need anything more than 5FPS and/or 42MP.

twitchyzero 06-11-2015 11:08 PM

Sony did not disappoint!
I was worried it'd only be an incremental upgrade like from a7 to a7ii..yeah FF mirrorless is still in infancy but when you factor in there's no other players and yet it's still making massive strides like these, impressive that it ticks so many boxes. T* coating on the eyepiece is overkill haha.
aside from battery life and lower burst than a $600 A6000, this camera will likely remain relevant for years

Used the Fuji XF56 1.2 on Canada Day.

When moving to Fuji I said that it was a must-buy lens to replace my 85 1.8/135L that I had on FF. After buying the camera and my other must-buy lens (XF23 1.4), buying the 56 became a lower-priority up until I felt that I could get by with some legacy 50-55mm lenses from SMC-Tak/Canon.

That brought me to Canada when a buddy who just bought a 56 let me try it. I can report back that it's probably the best lens I've tried in the Fuji lineup (to be fair, the only ones I haven't tried personally are the new pro zooms which look like beasts). It is achingly sharp at 1.2 (yeah yeah I know it's really ~1.8 DOF-wise, but it's miles ahead of my old EF85 1.8 wide open).

I'm so close to selling everything but my 23 (kit zoom, macro, tele zoom) to fund a 56. It's so good that I'm running out of superlatives to describe it.

Ronin 07-05-2015 12:25 AM

16mm F1.4 will be my next purchase after I sell my Canon 24L. 16, 35 and 56 will be my kit.

m3thods 07-06-2015 10:34 AM

^Can't get much better than that.

I always think of replacing my 23 with a 35 and adding a 14 and 56, but I use my 23 95% of the time (lots of family gatherings indoors) so I can't bring myself to replace it. 14 and 23 for some reason seems so close to me even though they aren't, so I haven't had an itch to pick it up just yet.

Just a thought about street photography in Vancouver...it's non-existent. Does anyone else feel like our city just doesn't...do that? I mean, the only time there are people out on the streets is when there's an event happening downtown and that doesn't feel very organic. What is it about New York or Hong Kong that makes every person feel like a character while everyone here just feels...ordinary?

Boostslut 07-29-2015 08:47 AM

Anyone going to the Abby Airshow next week? F-22 demo! I've always wanted to see one flying and never have, so i think i'll be there next week Friday. Excited!

StylinRed 07-29-2015 02:40 PM

I was thinking maybe I missed the show for this year! Thanks :)

Boostslut 07-29-2015 10:31 PM

F22 only performs on Saturday and Sunday though! Friday is a evening show, still pretty cool!

Boostslut 08-05-2015 08:02 AM

Got a 1D X, and a 5D III for the airshow. If anyone is there on Saturday let me know and you can play with some nice toys. Bringing the 500L also.

Senna4ever 08-08-2015 02:14 AM

I'll be there on Sunday in the Runway seating area with some Nikon NPS sponsored gear: a pair of D4s, a D810, 400mm f2.8VRII, 500mm f4 VRII & 600mm f4 VRII. ...and probably my own Canon gear with 1DX, 5D3, 100-400mm mkII & 600mm f4L if I can find more friends to carry shit. :lol

Boostslut 08-08-2015 10:09 PM

Fuck man, you need a sherpa!

Senna4ever 08-18-2015 12:24 AM

My airshow kit....too bad the lighting wasn't as good as Saturday. :(
