Seriously, If you go to leos they will talk you into a 700 dollar system for just the lights, and then you will need portable power if you want to shoot outdoors.
The alienbees set is not only cheap, its reliable and for 700 you can get it with a portal battery kit.

ok then, just trying to see if i can get some help from you guys coz some of you might have a better idea than me.
i just don't want to go into the store without any idea...

Well, the idea of going into the store is to ask the salesguy questions. You're under no obligation to buy from them. I agree that Alienbee makes good, cheap products, but are they as durable as a Hensel set-up? I don't think so. In an indoor studio setting, Alienbees would probably be fine, but out in the field, I doubt they'd last as long as Hensels. Your call though.

i'm just going to be using this for indoor guys, so basically i just need a basic one to start out with i guess...
but something that i can adjust the settings (if that's how you would call it) for how bright the light will be.

Then maybe the one at Kerrisdale is good enough for you....or if you can wait, get the Alienbees.

yeah i'm getting express delivery for the one day delivery... coz apparently its much cheaper compared to paying for regular shipping then paying again for disbursment fee...
now since its cheaper i don;t know which lights to get, i guess i should get the highest one eh?

If they ship UPS ground, then UPS wil charge insane brokerage fees. If he gets next day air like he's talking about (or anything that ISN'T ground.. IE express, next day, etc), then there will be no brokerage fee charges and he will be responsible for GST, PST and any applicable duties (of which I believe there are none) just like with USPS.

yup that's what the lady said, i don't have to pay for brokerage fee if i do the express one and the express only costs $38.32 USD for shipping one light
then i will just have to pay for the tax here in bc which is 13%
those are the only additional cost

i think if its regular shipment they will charge brokerage fee...
but if you do it express they don't charge brokerage fee...
i just ordered the beginner bee and i got charged $67.57 USD for shipping express next day delivery
no brokerage fee

yup for the good ones they start at that price range... but yeah i think i would suggest alienbees also... price is pretty reasonable and accesories also are pretty good.
will give a feedback on it once i get it and test it

Hmmm... I haven't checked this thread in a long time.
Just an FYI, you don't need to be super elaborate on your lights unless you are doing something special.
For the most part 500W lights are PLENTY for most people. Alien bees are good starter kits. There are ways to make the system portable for relatively cheap.
There are some pretty decent beginners kits to be found on Ebay.
You can create great photos with just about any lighting kit, you just have to know how to use it and it's limitations.
