so, a friend asked me to shoot his grad. I've never shot anything like that before and have only done a few portraits. Does anyone have any grad shoots in their portfolio that I could take a look at to get some ideas? I'm thinking of basically sticking with my 17-85IS. I also have an old 70-210, but wasn't really planning on using that too much? Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I've warned him that I've never shot anything like this, and told him to get someone else, but he insisted I do it...

Majin nice price. I sold mine w/ hood + filter for $440 cdn :P. Which was still a very good price for the person who picked it up.

Colin. Keep things simple until you have a good set of basic photographs. Then be more creative.

Portraits are typically taken above 50mm to reduce distortion.

Take a breather and step back to analyze things before you shoot. It makes your life easier and allows you to see more of the things around you.

Good luck.

Holy crap. What do you think the size of that lens on the left is? It's gotta be at least 600mm?

EDIT: I went back a page. Senna answered my question

Thanks for the tip. Any suggestions on which lens I should use? I think the 17-85 would be sharper because it's newer and has an IS, but the 70-210 would have more dof

Hmmm... well I'll put it this way... my strongest portraits are taken mostly at 200mm.

I just got a Athlon 64 Dual 4600+ with 2 gb of ram, a geforce 7600 gs with a 300 gig hd (and then my old 200 gig as well). That ran me about $800 or so with a case (but no windows)

It's a great computer and I have no problems with editing 10.1 mp images. I'll even have 10 or 15 open at a time! after about that it starts to lag
