bought an 8" monitor, an Ikan V8000HD. it sure is nice to stand back and focus! 
edit: after a few shots, makes focussing so much easier. with my eyes, a great thing! 
edit 2: after many tries now, my keeper rate is so much better. my next mission is to take it outdoors, once i find a bracket so i can attach it to my camera somehow.
the monitor comes with a hot shoe mount, but of course my flash unit occupies it. in the meanwhile, last one:

My el cheapo tripod broke and will be needing a new one.. Oben tripods any good? Oben AC-1300 3-Section Aluminum Tripod w/ BA-00 AC-1300/BA-00
Not willing to spend more than $130 taxes/shipping in lol

It looks to be a fantastic lens, but the price......
You can buy a Nikon D800 & a 500mm f4 VRII and have change left over to buy a few more lenses...or a Canon 5DmkIII & 500mm f4L IS II and a few lenses, although the new super-telephotos are more expensive than the previous versions from both Nikon & Canon.

^^^ For image quality, yes, but I think the A77 is a more responsive camera.
