You guys know any cheaper/better options for canvas prints other than Costco?

They can do 24X36 on a nice canvas print for around $110, I'm thinking of creating a panoramic made up of two of these 24X36

Any suggestions?

when they say "canvas print"

are only the "stretched" ones actually like mounted? all other sizes are simply just the loose canvas?

^They offer both options but I'm not sure about the quality of the print for them. Id stick with Costco as there's no wait times for shipping.

any ideas on a model or package i should be looking for as a starter DSLR for christmas under $700?

skyxx 10-04-2012 09:53 PM

Where are some places to check out in Hong Kong for great deals on Camera Gear? I know there's tons on Kowloon Mong Kok area but not sure which one is legit.

Echo Audio and Video in TST is quite reputable - visit Roland Lim's Wordpress blog for more info about legitimate Hong Kong camera shops

Canon T2i and 50mm f1.8 are in your price range and a good option
You will have to buy them separately though

Hondaracer 10-05-2012 09:07 AM

what do u guys think of a deal like this

T3i is nice. However for my money I'd spend the extra $100ish and get the much better and newer t4i.

Canon EOS Rebel T4i Digital SLR Kit w/ Free Slik Compact II Tripod & Free Patriot Signature Flash LX Series SDHC Card at Memory Express

Ronin 10-05-2012 12:10 PM

Seems like a shitty deal. I've seen T3i's available for as little as $349 (body only).

Hondaracer 10-05-2012 12:23 PM

Am I better off buying a body then lenses and a carrying bag etc almost always or do u guys think towards Christmas there will be value in buying one of these bundles?

Also anywhere I should be looking specifically at just bodies? Stores etc?

Always buy separately. The bags that come with these bundles are cheap, and kit lenses almost always suck. I personally buy my bodies new off ebay

gars 10-05-2012 03:57 PM

that kit lens actually isn't bad - if you're shooting in daylight. Stop it down a little, and it's decently sharp. perfectly fine lens to start off with.

Camera bags will only be good for you if it's got the features you want. For a starter camera, those bags are fine. If you start collecting more lenses, or you want to go hiking with your camera (or carry a laptop), there are other bags.

check out Photography, Digital Camera, Lens Price Comparisons for Canada - photoprice.ca for price comparisons. Remember that if you are to buy the camera from Amazon in the states - Canon honors warranties from US retailers as well (just not the grey market stuff you can get from Adorama)

Ronin 10-05-2012 04:05 PM

Kit lens isn't bad when you're learning. Good walkaround focal range. You'll need bright lighting though.

Get a 50mm f1.8 for $100.

how about a deal like this, the additional lenses though look cheap? :

Canon EOS Rebel T3i 600D + 18-55mm IS II 3 Lens 16GB DSLR Camera Kit NEW USA 089341685299 | eBay

All those extras are garbage. Plus you have to pay shipping on top as well as tax.

i think i would've went with the slightly slower 24-70 II.

Ronin 10-12-2012 05:58 PM

24L 35L 50L 85L is the plan.

Well, maybe a Rokinon 35 (because it has a smooth aperture ring I would love to have for video) and no 50L since I think the 50 1.4 is good enough. 85L for sure.

N.V.M. 10-14-2012 01:57 PM

just picked this up. used, but very minty. yes, it's a v.1. :okay:

i'll give it a try when the typhoons slow down a bit.

Main advantage of battery grips are as follows:

1. Vertical shutters and setting adjustments for easy shooting in portrait

2. Extra weight out back for better balance when using heavy lenses (esp. with lighter bodies e.g. T2i)

3. Extra battery life when shooting video, and EASY access to battery (side load, no need to remove cam from tripod to place new batteries in)

4. Compatibility with AA Batteries, for when you're out of lithium battery packs in an emergency situation, you can still keep shooting.
