I wonder how that girl feels now, knowing her threats to kill herself lead to the deaths of 2 people...

I notice a lot of people just stop right where they are when they hear sirens instead of pulling over causing emergency vehicles to have to swerve around them

impactX 04-29-2008 11:53 AM

Such a tragedy... Hope the two people RIP.

StylinRed 04-29-2008 12:58 PM

Wow i thought they would have buried this issue.. im actually impressed that they continued with the investigation

its not just new drivers that dont pull over... infact the majority of time i see women in their vans who just sit there or dudes in their pick-up trucks trying not to pull over and continue driving so that they could beat the traffic, and then theres those (mentioned above) that just sit there... a lot of people dont pull over not just the newbies

MR_BIGGS 04-29-2008 01:19 PM

I only follow behind fire trucks with their sirens on to get ahead in traffic...j/k j/k...

Ya I've noticed -lots of people will just stop in the lane they are in. It is not hard to just pull over. The emergency vechicles are most likely waiting for people in the left lanes to pull to the right and a lot of people don't!!

And it doesn't matter what the emergency, police, ambulance, fire all have to at the least slow down going through a red in an intersection. The place of some intersections such as one where there are tall buildings or its on a hill - it is very difficult to hear the sirens until they're really close by.

In the case where the female police officer got charged - she killed 2 people and I don't think the punishment is too severe as some have posted.

there was an update in the story genius.... why dont u actually read the thread

glad the cop got charged properly. its about time they be held responsible for their actions. too many fuckin cops these days think theyre above the law.

time_traveller 04-29-2008 04:32 PM

I respect the work that Emergency Workers do, but they need to be more careful when driving at speed through red intersections, sirens and lights doesn't mean that they're invincible. This is a good wake up call in regards to that issue.

thanks for the update

i think the suicidal phone call is just a story made by the police so they save their asses. Cause im pretty sure no one can follow up on suicidal related incidences because of confidential reasons. To me its a perfect cover up for a cop that ran the red light for no reason.

In Montreal, we where taught to give them the right-of-way, or pull over to the right lane to let them by and not stopping.

Not like here where 'most' people just stop and it ends up slowing them down.

Sky_2000 04-30-2008 02:13 PM

I was taught to stop and pull over to the right lane in traffic when i learned how to drive in Vancouver. It really depends who taught you how to drive. Montreal drivers are worst then Vancouver drivers thou. They have no respect for the rules of the road. It also doesn't help when most of the road lines are faded so badly that you can't tell which lane your in or whether it's a 1 or 2 lane road.

johny 04-30-2008 05:06 PM

if the cops can't have the right to get to a call as fast as they can then I should have the right to defend myself.

if someone breaks into my house with a weapon. and the cops take 5 mins to respond because he's following the law stoping at every stop sign and red light, and the law says I can't defend myself... one of those 2 laws has to change.

Actually I find many police pretty poor drivers, they don't obey the law making turns without signaling and often from the centre lane.

And as someone mentioned, they often abuse the sirens as well.

Option #3

Don't call the cops

Beat robber

Force to write spam emails for profit

Here comes the conspiracy theorists. Did you know JFK was assasinated by his fellow peers because he refused to invade Cuba? Also, did you know, it was sticks of dynamite that brought down the Twin Towers, and not the 2 airplanes colliding with it.

Better go down to your basement with your tin foil hat. It's safer for you there.

It's funny the lengths people go to villify police officers. But when it comes to a well known criminal organization (Hells Angels), it's funny the lengths people have gone to exonorate the club.

http://www.revscene.net/forums/showt...t=hells+angels

Coles Notes:

Cops are mainly power hungry, authority abusing, gestapo tyrants whereas Hell's Angels isn't all that bad. Just a few rotten apples.

Some people really need to get their POV's into perspective.

FS1992EG 05-01-2008 05:54 PM

^sorry, this is wat i believe, and if it werent for that cop, my buddy would still be alive 2day

Wow, just chalk another one up on the board... That's fucking disgusting.

TypeRNammer 03-17-2011 10:59 PM

Change the location where the sirens are mounted?

It's time to adopt the rumbler siren.

slammer111 03-18-2011 02:33 AM

Holy damn, way to revive an old thread.

I knew the Haras personally. They were pretty devastated. Hopefully this will bring some closure.

StylinRed 03-18-2011 02:43 AM

yeah here's the news1130 article

Quote:

BURNABY (NEWS1130) - A Burnaby mountie has been slapped with a hefty fine after pleading guilty to driving without due care and attention in a crash that killed two men in 2007.

Constable Petina Kostiuk pleaded guilty to a single count of driving without due care and attention. She entered that plea last week, and in doing so two counts of dangerous driving causing death have been stayed.

The Constable was on the way to a call when her cruiser T-boned a car at Kingsway and Royal Oak in October of 2007. Two men in the car, both of them in their twenties, died.

Kostiuk has been handed fines totalling just over $1,700 because of the driving infraction. She is still employed by the RCMP. The code of conduct investigation is ongoing.
http://www.news1130.com/news/local/a...-in-2007-crash

instead of 2 counts of dangerous driving causing death they let her plead guilty "driving without due care and attention"

im surprised the judge allowed her to plea to this (yes ultimately its his choice if he accepts the plea agreement)

RE-Jo 03-18-2011 08:33 AM

I know it probably doesn't matter because we are talking about two lifes gone, but did the family ever get some sort of compensation for their lost child?

nns 03-18-2011 09:40 AM

Maybe if they had life insurance.

InvisibleSoul 03-18-2011 10:14 AM

$1500 is "hefty"?

We can pay more than that for an excessive speeding ticket when all is said and done.
