1) People not properly pulling over for police, most people I see on the roads wait until the last minute or don't bother at all. 2) The casual use of police sirens in audio media.. I'm so used to hearing police sirens being used in music, on news broadcasts that half of the time I think I'm hearing it out of my stereo instead of the police.. until I see them right behind me. |
You may be right, but I'll withhold my judgment for now, although I see #1 all the time and I just think it's a matter of time before an ambulance gets hit because some douchebag in his riced-out Civic didn't pull over. |

i second that i always see people not pulling over for sirens there stupid and this is the end result of what eventually happens if people dont pull over properly |
i passed by the crash at around 940ish and the damages on both the cars were catastrophic IMO the silver cavailer was like totally destroyed in the front end, as well as the cop car... |
damn, i live like 2 mins from there. |
or maybe the officer didn't have his siren on to begin with? |
Or maybe he breezed through the intersection thinking it was clear, since that one's got some wierd visibility with the angle the roads meet at/crest of a hill. EDIT: Shouldn't be much of an investigation; that intersection's got a red-light camera. |
Watched part of this on the news in the morning, i saw the Cavalier and the RCMP cruiser, and they are totaled. I want to know what actually happend. Someone must have been going really fast for that type of accident to happen. Either the Cavalier didn't slow down beacuse they didn't hear the sirens/lights. OR The police didn't bother to slow down durning the intersections since it was late at night. OR Little bit of both. From the looks of it, It seems like the RCMP rammed the Cavalier beacuse the front of the RCMP cruiser was pushed in a way where it doesn't look like it could be from a side hit. But this is just my point of view so it's not worth much. Maybe my percption is wrong, but oh well. RIP and hope they solve this mess. |
That's weird - the Corolla's passenger side is pretty much destroyed. But how did the driver get injured/killed? Edit: Oops I mean Cavalier, not Corolla. |
like what the police media representative said, whether a civilian give the yield of way to the police or not, the police should ensure everyone's safety before crossing any intersection. the point is, if: the cavalier went through the intersection while the traffic light is green then: The police should hold all responsiblity to the accident whether he has his siren on or not. |
Correct; the MVA clearly puts the onus of liability on the operator of the emergency vehicle: 122 (1) Despite anything in this Part, but subject to subsections (2) and (4), a driver of an emergency vehicle may do the following: (a) exceed the speed limit; (b) proceed past a red traffic control signal or stop sign without stopping; (c) disregard rules and traffic control devices governing direction of movement or turning in specified directions; (d) stop or stand. (2) The driver of an emergency vehicle must not exercise the privileges granted by subsection (1) except in accordance with the regulations. (3) [Repealed 1997-30-2.] (4) The driver of an emergency vehicle exercising a privilege granted by subsection (1) must drive with due regard for safety, having regard to all the circumstances of the case, including the following: (a) the nature, condition and use of the highway; (b) the amount of traffic that is on, or might reasonably be expected to be on, the highway; (c) the nature of the use being made of the emergency vehicle at the time. |

Watched the news, News reporter said it was an inactivated red-light camera. Witnesses said the light was red for the RCMP cruiser... but who knows. |

anyways, when i was in vegas, the ambulance drivers never stopped at the intersection, they just ran it without slowing down and the people there knew to pull over to the side |
i know from a friend that when ur driving any type of emergency vehicle, if there is an accident you are held liable to all damages if its ur fault, ICBC won't cover you from what i heard at the JI, duno if its true? |

Anyone that can't distinguish music and real sirens shouldn't drive. |
Why does no one point out the possibility of the police car running a red light just because he didn't want to stop at the red light? (except death_blossom) I have frequently witness police cars driving normally, then turns on the siren all of a sudden right before a red light, passes it, and then turns off the light and continues driving normally. Which seems to me like they are abusing their authority Eventho they said the officer was responding to a "Priority Call", they could be doing this just to cover their own ass. I just hope they thoroughly investigate the accident... because people's lives are lost. |
I wonder how the woman who was threatening suicide (the call the cop was responding to) feels about this accident... |
