SO, RS got me back into donating blood. It was this drive that got me going. At that time, they couldn't get any blood to flow, so I ended up not giving. I didn't know to drink plenty of water before going.

Anyway, I went yesterday. This was my fourth time since the last RS blood drive. I thank you guys for organizing the event. I haven't seen one organized since. Yesterday, I got my Blood Services Olympic pin to go along with my red pin that says three on it. I asked about all the other pins they give out and holy carp, they had one with 450 on it. WTF? The volunteer girl said it was doable if you gave platelets and some other thing, as you can give those every two weeks rather than every 56 days for whole blood.

I see Revscene is not doing well as a group. Please donate, guys. It's in you to give.

Went again today.

I inquired about Revscene being a member of partners for life. The receptionist said, "Yes, Revscene is still a partner. I then made sure my donation counted towards Revscene's numbers. I registered and logged on a few minutes ago and guess what? Revscene has a grand total of 1 for this year. That would be me. LOL.

Revscene, I'm disappoint.

Then again, I have a feeling why it's only at one. It's the questions they ask at the clinic.

Have you come in contact with a monkey........
Have you paid for sex in the last six months.........
Have you had sex with someone you don't know............
Have you had sex with a raging homosexual...........
Have you ever been treated for syphilis or gonorhea in the last six months..........

The thing that doesn't add up is, 3/4 of Revscene is made up of virgins, LOL.

All kidding aside, we need to bring that number up. One, is not acceptable.

To have your donation counted with Revscene, go to

www.blood.ca/partnersforlife

Our partner ID is

REVS008555 (those are zeros).

You have the option of having name and info kept a secret. So really guys, you have no excuse.

Everytime I go, I will post in this thread in the hopes that it will get others on Revscene to donate.

Macademia used to organize these, but she isn't around too much these days I don't think. Raid3n and I have talked about it with a couple other mods, I'll remind them I won't be able to donate but I can take pictures and offer support though!

Wow, we are doing really well. I just got this info from the folks over at Canadian Blood Services.

http://www.blood.ca/CentreApps/Inter...tnerreport.pdf

Unless someone else has donated this year, that would be all me, LOL. I didn't notice any other car club, so we're doing really well and still number one!

Edit: To check the progress of our group, and others, search "progress report" on their web site.

Thanks for the info 89blkcivic! I donate regularly but didn't know how to make it count towards RS's numbers. I registered with the info you provided. Simple and took only 2 minutes to complete. I think I'm due for a donation sometime in the next month or so. Hopefully we can bump up those numbers.

Think about it this way...the blood you give could save could save a hot chick. Enough motivation yet?

They need hot registered nurses at the clinics. Raise the blood pressure a bit. I have yet to see a good looking nurse at that place. Come to think of it, I haven't seen any good looking donors there, either. I'm talking the clinic on Oak Street.

I wonder if we post a message on VOT, we would get more response. Perhaps a post to point people here. I really think it's good to organize a blood drive. Somehow tie it in with the summer meet?

Haha, no doubt. It doesn't help that they got grumpy old lady with the smokers voice greeting you when you first walk in the door at the Oak St branch.

There's one OK looking RN there but you're right - it's kind of slim pickings. I've seen a hot donor once...but to be honest, I've noticed it's mostly guys donating blood. Ratio of guys:girls donating seems to be about 4:1, although I can understand that depending on the timing, girls may fail the iron test at the start.

VOT might be a good start as you mentioned. Lots of activity there. I wonder if they have a mobile clinic? Maybe if we can get enough people to pledge to donate, they can send a mobile clinic out to one of the meets?

Ahahahaha............ according to one of the RN's, that old bitty used to be one hot mama. I saw an old picture of her when she was young. Jesus, time has not been kind to her.

Went today. Same ol same ol...........

On the way in, I saw a shiny, huge ass RV/trailer thing. It was a mobile blood center.

I inquired about it and they told me it was going out for the first time ever this coming week to UBC. I'm wAndering if we can book it for one of our car meets. I asked the nice lady inside and she said, as long as it is within 30 minutes of their location, it's a go.

The lady who poked me today and I got talking about how cots were set up in colleges back in the day. She told me they did that often when Red Cross was running the blood donation thingy. I guess Blood Services finally figured out that going to the people is the only way to drum up interest.

How about it RS mods? Do you think we can get enough interest for them to come out to one of our meets?

Judging by our donation count this year, the answer would probably be a big no.

It's 600mL if I remember correctly. It takes less than 10 minutes to fill up that small bag.

The mobile clinic was sitting out when I went to donate about 2 weeks ago. It would be great if they could come out to the meets but I think we'd probably want to get a rough headcount before having them go out because it would look REALLY bad if they drove all the way out and we only had a handful of donors show up.

What's our count at currently?

Donated blood for the first time today, surprised it wasn't too painful, a bit sore right now though

Damn that needle is pretty fat, free Oasis juice and an unlimited supply of food haha.

Will donate again in two months

Awesome, dude. Feels good to give a part of yourself to save others, yes?

Did you receive a gold coloured, blood drop shaped, lapel pin?

You will get another one at 3, then 10, and so on. I was lucky to get a 2010 pin during my 4th donation. I have 4 more to go before getting the 10.

I'm proud of you, son.

Don't forget to have your donation count towards Revscene's pledge.

Didn't get no pin unfortunately, I got a 1st time doner sticker and a card with thanks. I'm still curious of what my blood type is gonna be.

It's just going on the site to get it counted towards RS right?

I felt so disgraceful being the only asian people there with my friends. We were there for over an hour and we were the only asian people and only young people. It's kinda sad that I only saw white people..

Hmm...I never got my 1 and 3 pin. Just got my 10 pin when I went a few weeks ago. They give you the pin and fancy pin pad to stick your pins on.

You'll get used to the needle. It's just a matter of time before you won't even notice it.

It does feel really good to know that you saved a life when you give. I noticed too the small minority of Asians there. I guess the culture doesn't lend itself very well to donating. I think they should do more education in the Asian community to tell them how it can benefit others and how the body can "regenerate" the blood that is given during a donation. My mom is pretty old school and is of the belief that once it's donated it's gone and your body doesn't regenerate new blood. It took a lot of explanation before she finally got it....

BTW, congrats on the donation! Registering through the page that 89blkcivic listed above should make it count. Too bad I didn't know about it earlier - could have added a few more donations to the tally. My last donation was the first one that counted towards RS...

Forgot to take the booklet with me...

Quick question, what am I supposed to do with the wound after I take the bandaid off...

Just wash it and leave it?

Well, the gauze & tape I leave on for an hour or two after they take the blood. I'll throw the band aid on for the rest of the day and then just ditch it when I take a shower at night. After that, it's pretty much clotted to the point it won't bleed again so I just leave it open.

Over an Hour!!!

I'm not trying to be an ass but that's too long of a wait to just give some blood.

Making an appointment ahead of time will help reduce the wait time. You should be done in just under an hour. An hour of your time to save three lives is not much of a sacrifice. Just pretend you're on RS and your time won't seem like such a waste. LOL.

Also, try to go during non peak times, like one and a half hours after opening on a Saturday, or a Saturday during a long weekend when a lot of people are out of town.

1 hour is about the average time..

It's a tiny bit longer when you're a new donor.

They were running low on staff for the day so they told us there would be delays (we made appointments). First I had to confirm appointment at the front desk and then do the application process with another person, then I had to answer questions. After that was done, it was already close to 20 mins. All the seats were being used so I waited an additional 20 mins before I finally got placed and began the donation. The setup / donating / resting / refreshment were about another 20 mins. Keep in mind it was only this busy because it was the end of a long weekend and they were low on staff.

Theres no excuse not to go donate blood because you think an hour is too long. You can surf on RS for a couple hours everyday and you can't even spend an hour donating blood and saving lives?
