Anyway, I wear my "10" pin with pride. Certificates are given out at 50, along with the cards.

Hmm, this thread just reminded me I should go in this week! I had to cancel my last appt, b/c I double booked a dentist appt.. silly me.

My blood type is B+
There's this one lady that I really trust to do mine, she's a Muslim lady who wears a hijab with a very kind soul and a calming aura. I hope I get her again.

Cool. Another fellow RS blood donor. Welcome. Are you affiliated with another group (Partners for Life)? If not, RS can use the numbers.............

Ri2 02-20-2012 08:07 PM

Hi MG1, I just started in the fall last year so my next one will be my third donation.

No, I'm not with any group at the moment.
What entails a group affiliation?

The_Situation 02-20-2012 08:31 PM

Just had the worst experience ever donating blood today. The nurse that took my blood stuck the needle in at a bend and it hurt like shit.

Describe the nurse, please. If I see him or her, I'm going to request a different person.

There's this one male nurse who couldn't get at the vein. After two tries in each arm, he had to call it quits and I went home without donating blood. So miffed. I saw him the last time I went and he knew he should't spoil my day again. My veins are very tough and when a needle tries to break through, the vein moves out of the way. One nurse told me keeping the arm as straight as possible 'cause it makes poking you easier.

I think I mentioned this before, but the nurses always tell people to drink lots of water before donating and stay away from caffeine. Water plumps up the veins and caffeine shrinks them. Shrinkage is always a bad thing.

The_Situation 02-22-2012 11:46 PM

I had plenty of water during the day. It's just that the vein they always choose to take is right on the inner elbow where naturally for me there is a bend.
The other nurses I've had before had no trouble taking blood out of that vein, but this one had a hard time. She was the older filipino lady

Since you mentioned time, we should see who's the fastest here on RS.

Mine was 5 min 22 seconds :accepted:

Damn you......... 5 minutes? You too fast!

You have high blood pressure? Either that or you are in very good health and shape. I'm closing in on 6 decades, so I think I'm doing pretty good.

Takes longer to get it up, but the blood is still flowing, LOL

Ri2 05-11-2012 05:52 PM

was in today for my 3rd! my 1st donating with Partners for Life: Revscene :)

the name of my favorite phlebotomist is Roshan (learned this today).. how lucky was i!! i was about to get the lady who poked my friend and wiggled it around, and my friend looked like she got her arm caught in a car door 2 weeks later!!
then my savior, some random tech came up and nodded to her so she was like 'IM ON MY BREAK!' and Roshan stepped in and got it done for me.

i was more than happy, that lady is so gentle and she's the only one in that place who can feel my veins right.
anyways, i know you guys were curious if there was a 3 pin that's given, i got a keychain/zipper pull today. here's a pic of it!

made my next appt for July 6 in the AM before the Newton location moves over to Guildford in August :(

Bwahahahahahahahahaha............................

5 minutes and 2 seconds today, my friend.

Could be because my wife was with me........... she makes my blood boil.

First time they gave me a squeeze ball. That's probably why.

Good news. The blonde chick with the smooth touch is coming back to her regular spot after spending a few months over at the platelet side. Looking forward to it, LOL.

vvd 06-10-2012 09:20 AM

Can we get the mobile van at the meet this year?

5 minutes and 57 seconds today :okay:.

When the needle went in, knew something went wrong when it hurt so much more compared to previous insertions... Bruised now :failed:

Didn't get to squeeze anything today..except air. Maybe next time i get something ;)
