Dad ordered a Canon 70d with his Airmiles points. He was into film photography before but never made the jump to a DSLR
What are the pros and cons of this camera?? He has all his old canon lens and flashes I'm assuming the flashes will work with the new camera I know the lens carry over.
planning on buying him a SanDisk Extreme Pro memory card or is there something better

Whoa~ Your old man must have accumulated a LOT of Air Miles to be able to claim them for a 70D.
Rest assured that the 70D is a very good camera. The best bit about this camera is its AF system, both when you are using the regular TTL AF, as well as the Live View AF. As a matter of fact, I'd say it is superior to the 7D (Mk1), which was previously Canon's top of the line crop body camera back in 2009-2010.
As far as using his old lenses and flashes are concerned, while they should be compatible on paper (as long as they are EF lenses and EX flashes), in practice, they may or may not be 100% compatible, so watch out for that. With a crop body camera, the old film-based EF lenses might prove to be a bit too long (ie. not wide enough), and the dedicated EF-S lenses might be a more suitable option for him instead. With his old EX flashes, they will probably only support the basic TTL or at most the ETTL-1 flash modes, instead of the more current ETTL-2 mode that the 70D supports. However, since Canon's flash algorithm sucks anyway, you aren't really losing out too much here. I almost always have to dial in my own FEC to compensate for the Canon algorithm's gross inaccuracy.

Mark | Not trying to get into the debate. For me, at the same focal length, disregarding IQ, I can get my setup for cheaper than the same setup Fuji. Keep in mind i'm only doing it as a hobby so I don't need the best glass. Everyone is different in terms of their needs when doing photography so this may vary between users

Depends. I mean, a Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS is more than a Fuji 50-140 F2.8 IS. Same story for a 24-70.
But a Canon 35mm F2 is about $200 less than a Fuji 23mm F1.4 and a 50mm F1.4 is cheaper than a 35mm F1.4.
It think the difference isn't much when it's all said and done. If you're buying cheaper Canon gear like Rebels then yes, you're paying less but I went from a 5D3 and lenses to a X-T1 and lenses and I came out about $500 on top.

Two of my friends have one. It's such a great lens, but I opted for size and weight by going with the 14 :P

Yeah it's pretty big but I just think the 14mm is a little too wide, I really like having 17mm on a full frame. I was toying with a 12mm Rokinon though...

so I found a great deal (at least I think it is) on a Sony A6000 with the 16-55 power zoom and e55-210 kit lenses. I am super new but have found reviews are positive for this camera.
I'll be taking it backpacking through India. Any thoughts? Can I make due with just one lens? I orignally was just going to get the RX100 for this trip.

1650 will serve you well in most of the cases, great choice/size for traveling. If you think you'll need the range frequently then doesn't hurt to carry the 55210 too. My sister borrowed my A6000 to asia for few weeks and got by with just the 1650.

I wouldn't bother bringing a 200mm lens. I doubt you'll use it very often.

This gives me effectively 15-50mm coverage which I think should be sufficient.
I used to travel with my Canon 6D and a 17-40 plus a cheapie lightweight zoom and found that for 99% of the time, the 17-40 got me the shots I wanted, but they were always at either 17mm or 40mm, so I wanted to have the ability to shoot at least that wide, and at least that long. With the Fuji I also have the bonus that the "50" equiv lens is a 1.4 vs the F4 Canon.

Planning to buy a camera. Should be the same price everywhere....any advantage (or which store to avoid) among Best Buy, London Drugs, Kerisdale Camera, Memory Express?
Different refund policy / restocking fee....etc?

If you are a complete newbie, I think most camera purchases made at Broadway Camera would entitle you to take their Photography for Beginners course for free.

Let me know what price they're giving you and I'll see if I can match it at Broadway. I don't see how restocking fee matters unless you're planning on just renting.
And there's a new guy doing the beginner course...starts December 5th I think.

Thoughts on the Fuji X-T10 with the 16-50mm? Wasn't looking for another camera other than the rx100m3, but the price is too good not to pass up.

Definitely some pros and cons to the XT10 vs XE2. I played with an XT10 and really disliked the center viewfinder and found the buttons (or lack thereof) on the back to be a bit of a downgrade over my XE2. I also don't ever use a tilting screen and as such would really prefer to not have one as it adds weight and is flimsier. On the other hand, there is a lot more metal to the XT10 rather than "fake plastic" on the XE2 which I preferred, and overall it's a bit smaller which is nice from a packing perspective.
It's worth looking at both IMO.

Any noticeable image difference between the RX100 M1 and M2? Would love to go for the M3/M4, but its kind of out of my budget right now and I rather invest that kind of money into a Fuji / Sony AR down the road.
- Same lens / sensor
- No hotshoe for M1/3/4
- No tilt screen for M1
- No Wifi-NFC for M1
- Slightly higher ISO for M2 in Auto settings, but same can be achieve in M1 and M2 in manual
Anything I'm missing? If it's just mainly the WiFi and tilt screen, that's something I can live without.
