It doesnt seem like too big a deal, an optical viewfinder would be nice, but at least the Pentax LCD is low glare, and has a very bright backlight, I've been monkeying around with the Pentax a little bit and I'm pretty happy with it

hey I don't know if this belongs here but I'm looking to buy a camera and my girlfriend was going over the border on the 28th so i was thinking of having her buy it down there. Does anyone know if it's any cheaper and if so but approx. how much (ex. examples of price comparisons you've seen). Just want to know if it's worth the hassle.

my aunt who lives in the states is asking me if this is good: sony cybershot-712. i forgot the specs but it has some stuff like 2x zoom and 5x autofocus? i forgot the megapixels because i didn't write it down but i think 7.0megapixels is bad right? anyways, i guess it wouldn't matter about the specs but where would you buy a camera that's cheapest for it's price, best buy? as you can tell im pretty clueless but if anyone can give any suggestions, that would be great. thanks!

edit: as you can tell, i'm a total newbie in camera's and for my aunt, i think she's not that great at it either and it's for casual photo taking. what would you guys recommend? not something crappy but something that's slightly above average. thanks again!

she said that the camera was going to cost $399 USD....or was it $499 USD. either way, it's quite expensive but i only want her to spend $200-$300 so i guess that would be my budget.

I know it's been asked time and time again but tomorrow I'm gonna buy one or the other, either a canon rebel xt or a nikon d50. The nikon is approxiametely 889 and the canon at 999. I did a few searches and nothing that turns me completely to one or the other. I haven't really searched this thread because I didn't have time to dig through all the pages. Any last inputs?

I'd recommend the Fuji F10... simple camera, awesome battery life (500 shots per charge), great indoor shots (ISO1600!) and great picture quality.

it's a little over 300 US i think. not sure. but it's 379 here in Canada.

Digital Camera, which brand is better (Sony or Casio) help!

i want to buy a digital camera but i'm still deciding on which brand is better.

i'm very interested in the sony DSC-W5 and was gonna buy it for it's good price at bestbuy. it's a 5.1 mp with a 2.5 inch lcd screen but then i came up to a Casio EX-500sl which has 5.0 mp and with a huge 2.7 lcd screen. Now that made me think, i like the big screen but i'm not really sure about the brand. These two cameras are fairly similar as to everything else and the price i wanna pay for. I know that the casio has no viewfinder and i'm not too sure about the sony if it does.

so still deciding, not sure of which one i'm gonna get. i would expect the sony is better because of it's name, but the casio is not too bad also. If anyone out there own any one of these brand of cameras can you tell me how good they are? or any other similar brand that are better even. ThanX alot!!

though Canon > Kodak
the only thing that I can think of that Sony has going for it are the Zeiss lenses, Pentax also has some nice camera's in that price range (OptioWPi, which is waterproof, but doesnt have all the manual features, but takes VERY nice pictures)

for point-and-shoot cameras I'd stick with Canon... though I've had and used the Casio EX750 for awhile and really liked it a lot, but the pic quality is still not quite at the Canon level yet.

I picked the D50 in the end. It feels a lot better in my hands w/o having to pick up a battery grip, it has all the options I need (the only thing I would have liked is the DOF preview button but that's not a huge deal as I learn more about the camera), and I've been happy with the lens kit as a starter.

I don't think anything is going to turn you to one camera or the other, they're both very good choices and you'll be happy with either.

okay so i dont buy the sony because it's only expensive for its brand? does that mean i should buy a canon brand because it has better performance for its price?
