how is the canon s80?? anything else u would recommend that's slim??

akord: buy a fuji f11 if you dont mind buying online (not sold in canada). best manual P&S camera imo. f10 is also good but no manual features.

Hey guys, so I'm looking to buy a new digi cam for my trip to Spain in May. I currently have a 2.1 Megapixel Pentax camera I bought over 5 years ago.

This one has got my attention. I want to spend around $450 before taxes, and it has to be from future shop (I have a big credit there)

I'll post more camera's as I view them. Size is the most important feature for me, smaller the better.

unit 04-19-2006 12:37 PM

i'd stay away. like i said above if you dont need to adjust manual settings then get an f10

pr0nboy 05-03-2006 10:11 AM

Canon Rebel 300D yay or nay?

Is this model any good? Someone has this for sale for $650 with all the accesories plus a bag.

I'm a total n00b at slr photography so I'm just wondering if this would be a good camera to start off with. People told me to just go with the 350 but are the extra features really that worth the extra money?

Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!

cheori 05-03-2006 11:32 AM

here are the list of what's better on 350D

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos350d/

I'd personally go with 350D. If money is an issue,
I'd look for used 350D..

what does it come with? the 300D that is..
you said big and this and that acc. so we have no idea what's included. hehe

Gopher 05-03-2006 04:58 PM

350D. Hands down.

niforpix 05-03-2006 07:25 PM

I got the 300D used from one of the guys on here (Jomo - who's been super helpfull with all the questions I had, btw) :)

I love it. No problems. Very solid camera, takes nice pics. I got a wide angle lens that's much sharper then my original lens and I don't think I'll be upgrading anytime soon since I'm so new at photography as yourself.

It all depends how much "bling" you got. If you're tight on cash, go with the 300D. You won't be disappointed.

Good luck! :)

Bonjour43MA 05-03-2006 09:15 PM

the 300D is a very good and capable camera, and like others have said, if you're on a budget then it's a good buy and your final results won't look dramatically different than if you bought an XT.

Get a Nikon D50 and your set :)

newbie to the slr world

i was looking into getting an slr cam cause ive used my casio and canon for way to long and they just dont cut it quality wise for me.

i should probably start off with something low budget till i get the hang of it

any tips on what cam i should get?

Gopher 05-04-2006 12:43 PM

Why doesn't ANYONE here use the "Need advice on a camera" thread?

//RacingSpirit>> 05-04-2006 01:37 PM

looks like i need another opinion on a new camera......

i'll be attending a wedding later this year, and taking a vacation. I'll need a camera that takes nice pix. currently, i'm looking at the s3is mainly because of the zoom and image stabilizer. but for about 300bux or so more, i can get a canon rebel dslr kit....... so what i'm wondering is, since carrying diff lenses on a vacation would be a hassle, how will the stock lens (18-55mm i think) perform on the dslr? overall, which camera would be better for wedding shots and vacation shots?

looking to step into the slr world. not ready to spend 1g on a camera just yet. any suggestions?

PS: I need one that has crazy zoom like 12 x optical. and be able to take sports pics and scenery pics
thanks

Robalong 05-04-2006 02:31 PM

because they only want people to answer their questions, these are the selfish threads where everyone has to answer the same thing every day for people who dont feel like reading through what was already said.

::smurfie:: 05-04-2006 02:37 PM

it has nothing to do with being selfish i just never ventured onto this forum before didn't see that there. u dont have to answer my questions

mmmm

any SLR setup + 1 "crazy zoom" lens WILL be 1,000 bucks or more no matter how you cut it.

just to give you a rough idea:

Nikon D50 body = $700 CDN
Nikon 18-200mm "crazy zoom" = $900
or
Sigma/Tamron 18-200mm = about $500 ish I think.

plus a memory card
plus a camera bag
plus some little things here and there

yeah dude, it'll be over $1000 with the kind of setup you're looking for.

I think you should do this :

get the Nikon D50 kit = $870 + a 70-300mm zoom = $120 used and you're set.

trust me, you WILL spend over $1000 once you start using SLR cameras.

Then your not ready to get to get a SLR yet.

12x optical is like 400mm

which is like 3,000 lens alone

buy a Canon zoom.... the S series with IS

::smurfie:: 05-04-2006 06:15 PM

are there any digital camera's out there with that kinda zoom? and which allows me to take pics of my guy playing sports?

Panasonic FZ-30? It has 12x zoom, manual focus and zoom rings, manual settings, image stabalizer, and appears to be within your budget.

Bonjour43MA 05-04-2006 06:58 PM

Canon S2/S3 IS
Panasonic FZ7 , FZ30
Fuji S5200, S9000

All under $1000 after taxes with at least 10X zoom

Gopher 05-04-2006 08:05 PM

There's this camera out by Kodak... it's got 10x optical zoom and little digital. Basically it looks like a small and really ugly s2. But for your price range I'd just go for one of those good Canons.

Gopher 05-04-2006 09:25 PM

Looks great for 400 bucks.
