Because its a sony... :P

But seriously, I'd go with the Rebel XT. Even though the bodies are cheap and plastic, the s3 is a good camera to have around only if your going somewhere where you don't want to damage your camera.

I took everything in there with an S2 IS.

Senna4ever 05-29-2006 02:54 AM

I doubt Sony will make their cameras as unreliable as their other stuff. They want 35% of the dSLR market. They won't make a shitty product.....I hope.

Canon's S2/S3 cameras are very nice, but one cannot use interchangable lenses and the sensors are too small, resulting in less dynamic range.

Sorry, I was basing this off the E3 ps3 unveiling.

"It's ridge racer.... RIDGE RAAAAAAAAACER"

"The ps3 will value for 599 usd"

Err...wha?

Bonjour43MA 05-29-2006 01:56 PM

he's high

and no I don't think Sony will be making their own camers. I bet you Konica Minolta will keep doing that and just put a Sony badge on the body.

Senna4ever 05-29-2006 06:48 PM

Sony has bought all of Minolta's camera manufacturing plants. KM will still supply lenses.

Hey guys, looking into getting a new point and shoot digi cam.

I really would like a cannon a610 or a520, but it sounds like the movie mode caps out at about 30 seconds. This is a major concern to me. Is there any similar camera's out there to the cannons with an unlimited movie mode. I'm looking for the manual featres of the cannon

Not sure how useful ISO800 will be in such a small sensor. Pictures must have so much noise or be super soft with all the processing.

HOLY CRAP long time no see!!

Not really in the same class as the A610. I would love an S2, but the size deter's me. I did some more research and it seem you can do continous video with the 610 as long as you have a fast SD card, what makes a fast SD card?

But there has to be camera out there that compete with the 610???

dub.dub 06-07-2006 04:57 PM

fast SD card means those 1000X speed ones :D ultra II and such, etc.

hud 91gt 06-08-2006 12:36 PM

Well I picked up an A610, and I have my standard one gig SD... There is soo much to learn.. lol

Meowjin 06-09-2006 01:10 AM

good purchase =)

compact recommendations

don't have money for slr's or sub slr's, and hate the size
so what's a gd one for nice clear shots w/o flash?
i was looking at fuji Z3, sony t30
most ppl tell me canon has great quality, but their looks really don't interest me at all
if in the end the quality of the canon's really beat the others by far, i'll consider them i guess

lowside67 06-09-2006 08:40 AM

what kind of budget do you have?

hud 91gt 06-09-2006 09:57 AM

Just bought a Cannon A610... It is bigger then most of the point and shoots, but I am loving all the manual options I get with it, and so far quality has been great.

Bonjour43MA 06-09-2006 10:03 AM

Fuji F10 or the replacement for it, F30

for the nguyen! 06-12-2006 11:54 PM

hey guys, canon sd600 or sony dsc-w50. i was leaning towards the canon cuz it's a canon. any other suggestions are welcome too. basically just looking for a good compact cam.

edit: sorry one more question, is there much of a difference in terms image quality between a canon sd600 and powershot a700?

Senna4ever 06-13-2006 12:41 AM

Try looking at the Panasonic DMC-FX01. Awesome images. Leica optics!

//RacingSpirit>> 06-14-2006 01:40 PM

just picked up a rebel xt silver body.......wanted the black one, but got a really good deal on a silver one. since they are identical in performance, i guess the silver is going to have to grow on me....

laurencepak 06-14-2006 09:24 PM

one of the good things about a silver camera is that it woudln't be as hot as the black ones in the sun.

and i heard that this was one of the intention behind painting the White lenses white too

wow....never really thought of that. i guess i don't hate the silver that bad anymore......i was playing around with it and it doesn't seem as bad as the photos of it that you see on the net.

MikesJo 06-15-2006 03:30 PM

Rebel XT or 20D?

Can't decide. I'll probably miss the wheel on the back of the 20D. The XT with the grip isn't bad but the normal grip on there is pretty small and cramped at times. They turn out almost identical images ( I can't tell which camera they pics come from). There's almost a $200 difference between the two bodies as well (used prices). I could use that extra cash toward a 2.8IS lol.

What are your opinions?

Mananetwork 06-15-2006 03:52 PM

Maybe one of the dumbest responses but, the 20D just feels like a great camera in my hands... Upgrading from a rebel 300D to a 20D was the best thing I did. XT wouldn't be any different, except from the light small body compared to the 300D... I would fork out the extra 200$ to get a 20D
