Well it's certainly no SLR... if you're planning on going to an SLR it's probably a wasted step.

comparing the Fujifilm S5200 and the Sony DSC-H2, which do you think is "better" overall? I'm looking for a camera that is more powerful than a standard fashionable point-and-shoot (having a large lens and plenty of optical zoom is very important to me). good image stabilization is critical too. Neither has an articulating LCD, which I would have preferred. Poking around, it seems that I can get the Fuji for about $100 less than the Sony.

edit: also comparing to the Canon S3 IS, if possible, which is about $100 more than the Sony.

I found this on dpreview:
Quote:
Of the current crop of 5/6 megapixel super zoom cameras the H2 is still, by a whisker, my personal favorite, and is in many respects a better camera than its high profile competitor, the Canon S3 IS. That it costs a good $100 less than the S3 IS is just the icing on the cake, and will for many I suspect seal the deal.
edit2: what about the panasonic fz7? seems to be in the same range as the h2 and s3, but it's cheaper, lighter, and uses lithium ion batteries

Personally I was actually very disappointed with the 5200, we had one come into the store and I played around with it. It feel sluggish.

Pick up an S2IS or the S3IS. 77civic1200 has an S2 and takes some great shots with it.

The S3 I played with in the store was incredible, 12x optical zoom, feels great. I would definitely recommend it.

Casio and Canon Make some excellent point and shoot cameras.

I don't know how much it costs right now, but a canon s3 IS is a medium sized camera (much smaller than an slr) with 12 times zoom Image stabilization, and produces excellent results for around 500.

Another camera if you like to go clubbing alot and care about portability and take awesome photos is an sd700 IS.

Panasonic FX01 or LX2. Both have IS & they also have a wide-angle. Casio are getting better, but they are not in the same league as the Panasonic, Sony or Canon models.

I just picked up a S3 IS and I FRIGIN' LOVE IT! It's certainly larger than the compact, fashion cameras (the super slim sony's and casio's, etc), but it's a lot smaller than a full-out DSLR. It's got enough manual controls to keep me interested and the articulating LCD is fantastic. that said, if portability is an issue, you may not want one, because it's not exactly pocketable.

I've heard good things about the Pentax K10D...I haven't fondled one yet though. Get a decent DSLR and get a film rangefinder!

^^^Whatchoo talking about? Japan is the second largest market for 35mm film, and the largest market for German rangefinders like Leica.

Which country has the largest market for 35mm film? I'm guessing the US?
