I just purchased the canon sd800is camera. Just a question though regarding the memory cards. Is there a big difference on the regular sandisk 2gig memory card vs the high speed ones?

That depends how fast the SD800 is reading and writing to the card. The high speed one will download images faster to your computer for sure, if you are using a USB 2.0 card reader. The Sandisk Ultra II are pretty cheap right now so why not gt one or two? Downtown Costco was sold out on the Ultra II yesterday, but the other stores may have them.

Another thing, for the canon sd800is, under low light especially, is the lcd supposed to look really fuzzy? It reminds me of watching tv with bad reception problems.

What's happening is that the LCD is gaining up in dark conditions. It's simulating what your shot will look like when you press the shutter at that moment without flash and/or to give better visibility.

can anyone educate me on a digital SLR camera?
i want to get into photography, i want to be able to zoom in and capture the real color, the real beauty of objects.
and also use it to capture fast moving subjects or objects. mainly use it to capture people jumping on dirt bikes while they are in the air
my friend recommended me the D40, cause hes a nikon fan
all i have used are just basic point and shoot cameras
what do you guys recommend?

I love the anti shake feature of my Panasonic point and shoot and I was wondering about the difference between the Pentax's shake reduction and Canon's IS lenses. Would both systems yield similar results or would the IS in the Canon lens be better. They're awfully expensive making the Pentax look like a better deal off the bat because it's built into the camera and would work with any lens.
If so the Pentax K100D is a very tempting first dSLR for me.

what do you guys recommend? | Both Canon and Nikon make fantastic cameras. You can't go wrong with both.
Nikon D40, Canon XTi and the Canon 30D are prime choices http://www.photo.net/equipment/35mm/canon-v-nikon |

canon XTi, Nikon D40, Sony A100, Pentax K110D, Panasonic L1.
I have the Konica Minolta 7D, which is the first camera to have in-body. I've found the feature to be invaluable. It has given EVERY lens I have IS. What would you rather have? All of your lenses with stabilization, or just a select few? The good thing about the Pentax is that it also accepts all Pentax lenses ever made. Even some of the great classic Asahi-Pentax lenses from the 70's/80's will have stabilization. They're plentiful and cheap!
EmOne: Go to Leo's and or Lens & Shutter and just try all of the cameras in your budget range. The sales people at Leo's will go out of their way to explain the differences between camera systems for you if it's not very busy....they don't carry Nikon though...long, but interesting story why. Just remember, when you buy a camera, you're buying into the system. Take into account how much lenses & accessories cost. Does the system offer what YOU need for YOUR style of shooting? No single system will offer everything, but canon and Nikon might be more complete than the smaller guys.
Sports - canon
Wildlife - any, but canon, Nikon & Sony have awesome telephotos
Low light - canon
Flash - Nikon, Sony
Portraiture - canon, Nikon, Sony. I write Sony because the Zeiss lenses and G lenses are some of the best lenses ever made. the high ISO noise of the A100 is a bit of a turn-off, but it's invisible in 4x6 or 8x10 prints.
B&W - NONE! B&W FILM STILL ROCKS.

D50 is ok, i'd pick it ovear a D40 (i think that's what ur referring to in your D50 + weight) The D50 is bigger, and has the dedicated information panel, which they took out to make the D40 smaller. Also D50 can use all the Nikon lenses, not just the AF-S/AF-I lenses. There's one thats in the RS Buy and Sell for 700....might be the same guy.
i personally was trying to get a D50 but ended up settling for a used XT
here, check this link out http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/comp...n_d40&show=all

Anyone have any good recommendations for a nice slim point and shoot?
at least 6.0MP with Image Stabilization?
Looking for anything that won't burn a big hole in my pocket.

Hmm I just replaced my Canon G5 with a Sony DSC-F828. It was a decision between Canon Pro 1, Sony F828, Canon S3 IS. Good choice?

I am actually looking for a decent point & shoot camera.. I was wondering if anyone on this forum can share their expertise with me as I am a noob with cameras..
I am not a professional or anything but I do value quality pictures. I just want a camera that has a mixture of style, colors, and functions. Also, decent video quality and sound too..
I am considering Canon's SD800 at the moment.. please give me recommendations!
Thanks!
