Ok guys oddly enough my piece of shit kit lens from my 30D stopped working, well the autofocus just stopped working. I would bother getting it fixed since i still have the 3 year warranty of it from bestbuy but i wanna get something to upgrade it with anyways. basically something with the same range i guess. i already have the 50mm 1.8 75-300mm 4-5.6 IS USM but i don't really have the budget to get an expensive lens so yeah. i will be using this lens that i want to get for taking pictures for clubs so just something decent basically just an upgrade from the kit lens. just need that nice wide angle coz i gotta get those group pictures also. $400 would be my budget including tax already. I don't mind buying used lenses at all so if you could reffer me to some that would be awesome also!!! |
wtf....this is the camera thread....and you already posted in the lens thread |
Canon XTi vs. 30D...need your good advice again ;) Well you guys on here have been useful in the past...so I thought I'd ask again...basically the deal is that I got my XTi from the most unlikely of places (Costco) and I'm pretty sure that they only had it by accident...so I have no warranty on it...if anything goes wrong with it, I take it back within 12 months and they give me ALL of my money back...end of story. So a local store has the 30D w/ kit lens for $1,250 and one tax (I'm in Alberta now...so roughly $1,350)...I paid $1,060 for my XTi...sooooo for $300 I could upgrade AND start with a brand new camera AND have 12 months of warranty. I'm kinda bummed that the 30D is only 8MP (vs. 10 in my XTi) and I don't think the 30D has the self-cleaning mirror (whereas my XTi does.) I'm a journalist and I hike and stuff a lot so I kinda want the tougher body of the 30D (mine is absolutely MINT, not a scratch on it...but it's better to be overprotected). Another option is simply returning mine, taking the cash and getting a brand new XTi for free...anyhooz...any opinions? thanks :) (PS: going w/ Nikon, Pentax, etc is not an option...I already have a Canon-mount 70-300 lens haha...and I like Canons) |
Why would you get an XTi for free? (Don't have to answer, lol). Costco, btw, is the best place to buy things :). They have a life time warranty on everything! It's crazy. I'd get the 30D. 2MP is negligible, you won't notice the difference. Plus the 30D is built better. I can't stand the XTx series feel. |
this thread will be merged into the sticky for getting a new camera |

I suggest upgrading to the 30D... same reasons as stated above, and the tougher body is just such a huge pro. |
costco revised their "lifetime" warranty policies....i'd advise checking whether or not cameras are covered, cuz i know comp equipment and audio equiment is nolonger a true lifetime warranty |
Canon A570IS vs Canon SD900... which one to get?? Please help me figure out which camera is better and more suited for my needs. I will be mostly doing point and shoot type photos, indoor pics of my new born baby girl. I bought the A570IS already and took a few shots, not bad of a camera but recently a friend offered me a new SD900 for about 4bills please help SD900 http://www.canon.ca/english/index-pr...&epage=viewall A570IS http://www.canon.ca/english/index-pr...&epage=viewall |
question, why did this get unstickied? |
No idea.. maybe when I merge threads it gets unstickied |
im also looking for a new point and shoot to retire my canon A75.... my old camera has an excellent lense, and great battery life, so thats all Im looking for...good battery and photo quality. IS and Wide angle lens are a bonus, and any other perks. Im looking into the SD800 or SD850 right now... any other suggestions? does any one know how the battery life on those 2 cameras are? |
SD800IS seems to be one of the best choices out there right now. Try having a look at the Panasonic FX55 or FX33 too. |
does anyone know if there would be a price drop within the next couple of months on dslrs'? Specifically Canon 30D? thx! |
$600 Budget..... Well with a budget of $600 I am looking to get a Camera. Canon PowerShot S5 IS is the one that I am looking into so far, I like the fact that it has a swivel screen as I do lots of down low shots of car's and animal's (dog show's and such) Any more sugestions? I need somthing that will be fiarly easy for my g/f to use also. SLR is out of my budget. |
Panasonic LX2 canon SD800IS |

The S3 has many SLR like features on it, good zoom and great IS. The Swan photos I posted in the daily photo thread were taken at near max zoom with the IS on. |
S5 has a better optical zoom, face detection, faster loadup time, faster multiple picture taking, then the S3. Justify the price..... I am not sure yet. |
What do you guys think of this camera: Fuji FinePix S700 7.1MP Mega-Zoom Digital Camera |
looking at the Dell deals? ahaha, i heard its ok |
Anyone have any experience with the Olympus EVOLT E-410? What are your thoughts/opinions on it? |
Nice lenses, but the viewfinder is dim and really tiny. |
I decided I want a new DSLR now, not a really expensive high end one, but one between the $600-$1000 price range. I dont want to much bulk if I can avoid it. Any advice? I was looking at the D40, or d40x, K100D, K10D, or D80(although its pretty big in size, same with the K10D) |
I have the D40X and it's great. I love the small size. However, I'm starting to really hate the fact that it has a very limited selection of lenses that will auto focus. |

SD800 on the other hand is a great everyday camera. The LX2 is a more serious piece of equipment with RAW capability and such though. |
i'm thinking of getting a dslr but don't really want to spend too much money. Shops are still selling the XT and the XTi.... would the XTi be worth the extra $$? What are the major differences besides the megapixels? |
