Take your pick. I'd stay away from the Nikon P&S, as they tend to have lots of high ISO noise. The canon, Fuji & Panasonics are decent. The Fuji has a larger sensor than the other cameras, so it should have better high ISO capabilities. Costco may have some good deals in store. Their web prices are always higher than in-store prices. http://www.kerrisdalecameras.com/sto...E&dept_id=5011

| Best Camera to buy under $150?
Can anyone recomend any digitial camera's in the $150 range? Obviously the best one is ideal. Only real specification is that it uses lithium ion batteries so i can just recharge the camera without having to use AA batteries all the time. Being boxing week, not sure if thier are any really good steals.
Its just basically for home use for my parents to develop pictures during whatever event they seem necessary.

You're not going to get a decent digital camera for $150. Just stick to a film P&S. You'll get much better photos.

So the wife bought me a d40 for the same price they are selling the d40x package at best buy. Im looking at upgrading and getting one of the following. D40x with the 18-55mm Zoom-Nikkor lens, D80 with the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED Lens, Canon XTi Bundle with 18-55mm lens and 75-300mm zoom lens, Canon EOS 30D With 28-135mm IS USM Lens Kit.
Its my first slr but I want one that will last me a few years and I learn at a fast pace and thought that the d40 3 point auto focus and only working with some lenses would hold me back. Id also liketoableto try some better zoomshots without having to grab another lens right away while still taking some good close ups. Im stuck on what to get some any pointers are great.

Only working with some lenses only really affects you if a) you already have nikon glass, or B) you're gonna stock up on old lenses.

is the d80 worth the extra dollars or would I be better to grab one of the other options in that price range.
Is there any other difference other than zoom when it comes to the D80 with the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED Lens and the and say 18-70's they come packaged with. I also found a good deal for not much more a d200 today>

The D80 is a great camera. The 18-135 has ED glass which should make it sharper or have less CA than the 18-70.

It also has a metal mount vs the plastic mount found in the 18-135.
As for the D40 vs D80, go try them both. Some people can't stand the small size of the D40, while other love it. At first, I loved the small size of my D40X, however, slap on a heavy lens and an external flash, and the D40X feels very unbalanced and awkward. Also, manually focusing anything with the tiny view finder is a PTA with the D40's.
The D40 has a mechanical shutter, vs the electronic shutter on the D40X and D80, so you are limited to a flash sync speed of 1/200 on the D40X/80 vs 1/500 on the D40.

Ok, nevermind...I thought the 18-70 was a budget lens. Upon further investigation, it's a pro lend with ED glass and weather sealing.

I grabbed a d80 today so i dont miss out on the sale but i have not opened it. I went with my co-worker to talk to a friend of his who is a photographer for 20plus years and he suggested the k10d with 18-250 or 18-300over a d80. Ive been looking and most of the info I find on the k10d is over a year old. One thing that poped out at me was that people where saying it had a softer image thatn the d80. Was that ever fixed with firmware? Anyone chime in on the 2 wich is better?

They were probably talking about JPEGs. The RAW files should be sharp with the proper PP. The K10D is a great camera...I'd get it over the D80, but Nikon has a better lens selection for what I need.

Having a hard time actually picking a DSLR for myself.
XTI for the availability of lenses and a feature packed camera... I just don't like how it feels.
D40x is great in size and quality of kit lens... Though it doesn't matter since I'm gonna slap on a 18-70. Only down side is the lack of Auto-Exposure Bracketing.
K10D is a value oriented camera. Also their shake reduction is very appealing.
It feels like I'm way in over my head with these cameras, as each has their own pros/cons. But I'm looking at getting into portrait, indoor, and out door (Scenery) photography. Nothing is leading me to sport-type shots.

if you're looking at getting into portraits, i think you'll want to move up to a 1.3x instead of a 1.6x

Fuji S5 Pro for portraits. Hands down the best 35mm based DSLR for skin tones and dynamic range.

Hey guys, I just scored a used Nikon D200 for $450. My friend happen to be at Broadway Camera and there was a guy trying to get BC to put it on consinment.
Anyways, the receipts say it's just over 1 year old. Any way to check the shutter actuations? Damn, this is way beefier than my D40X. Gotta read the damn manual ASAP. Haha, non AF-S lenses here I come!!

Ok, I just figured out how to find the shutter actuations, it's got less than 5500. My D40X has easily 10k already. Damn, good deal!!!

FX-33 has dropped to $255.
Leica Lens, wide angle, and has some decent FPS at 2MP.
