I'm looking to pick up a compact p&s preferably around the $300 range. I talked to the folks at dunne & rundle earlier and they suggested the just released nikon s710. I checked out the usual haunts (dpreview, etc) and there is not much info out there. Any word on this camera or other p&s recommendations? Looking for wide-angle, compact, ease of use, <$400.

has anyone had experience with the Canon digital rebel kiss?

[HuCk DuCk] 09-27-2008 01:35 AM

uh, that's called the Digital Rebel aka 300D.

300D -> 350D -> 400D -> 450D
which is
DigiRebel -> XT -> XTi -> XSi

Does anyone got a Canon 50D yet? I am looking at upgrading from my xti and 17-85 lens to the 50D with 18-200 and 10-22.

Senna4ever 10-13-2008 10:29 PM

Why would you put a low-end consumer lens like the 18-200 on a prosumer body like the 50D? You're just going to accentuate the faults of the 18-200.

Currently having a debatable issue to whether purchase the Nikon D90 or Canon 40D. I know that Canon shot in the 50D into the market, which has caused the 40D to drop in price now. Thus, D90 and 40D are almost similar in price. Any thoughts of which is better?

Canon 50D or Nikon D300, which one and why? I am wanting to buy one of these bodies soon. I curently use Canon XTI with 17-85 but will sell that so it leaves me with nothing. Right now I want 50D 1st because I'm a canon user but then again the D300 seems to be move impressive (from what i have heard).

The D300 definately has less noise at higher ISO's, but you can't go wrong with any of them.

about 1150~ from hk its pretty good so far tho not sure if its worth all that money ..... hahaha

but another thing should i get a 50mm f1/4 or a 70mm f4?

all i got right now in DX format anyways is 18-55, 18-105VR, 18-135, 55-200,70-300vr

all cheap lenses need smth a lil more useful =D

IMASA 12-01-2008 03:21 PM

Depends on your shooting style but if you want a prime, consider the Nikkor 35mm F2 or Sigma 30mm 1.4. I find a 30mm lens more useful on a crop body than a 50. I hardly ever use my 50mm 1.8.

!Aznboi128 12-01-2008 07:57 PM

i was actually thinking if i should get the 50mm f1.4 or 50mm f.18 or the 70mm

Hey redline!

How did your course go? I would like to hear what you thought about your first course experience with photography!

Amuse 12-19-2008 03:33 PM

Hey, I owned a D50, 50 1.8, 85 1.8, sb400 2 years ago
lost interest in photography, got broke from this hobby, so sold everything but my 85mm
the 50mm stays on my Nikon film slr
and now I want to get back into it, but not that serious

So, I'm looking for a small DSLR with kit lens for $400 to $500 new.
I don't like to edit photos, so will likely shoot in jpeg
I'm looking at Nikon D40 or Canon XS.

Which one is better?
I like to use prime lenses, so can the XS autofocus a Canon 50mm 1.8 lens?

Senna4ever 12-19-2008 04:06 PM

The D40/D60 can AF with the new Nikon 50mm.

Senna4ever 12-19-2008 04:19 PM
