I went from a 300D to a 40D last fall... was a great move. The 40D is a fantastic camera. One thing to be ready for, though, is that it's a fair bit larger and heavier than the 300D. Not ridiculously so, but it is a bigger camera. The menus and button layouts are a little different, but not terribly so. The other bonus is that you can still use your 300D's battery with it as well, as a spare/backup. |

And yah I looked at the 30d, but the 40d did look like quite an improvement over the 30d. On the otherhand the 50d didn't look to be worth the extra $$. |
Buddy of mine got a 50D recently and it's pretty nice as well, but I didn't notice a huge difference to it other than the higher resolution (14MP vs. the 40D's 10MP). From what I've read and heard, the higher res on the same size sensor actually gives it a little poorer low-light performance (smaller pixels) than the 40D, something that may or may not matter to you (it does to me). |
Ya I would definitely prefer the high ISO performance over resolution. I mean clearly resolution isn't a big deal for me...I've been using 6.3 for the longest time :P |
For a mix between good photo's and the hd video what would you guys recomend between the EOS Rebel T1i or the Nikon D90? |
T1i. The D90 doesn't have the best video capabilities. The new D5000 may give the T1i a run for its money though. |

Hi Guys, I needs some help deciding which entry level DSLR to get: Bestbuy currently has a D60 package with 18-55 VR and 55-200 VR Lens for $699, which is quite a nice deal. On the other hand, I have been eyeing the Rebel XSi with 18-55 IS lens package, currently going for $729 around GVRD. I know that XSI has better spec than D60, but since I will be using the camera maining to blind my newborn and take some general travel photos only, is it worth it to go for XSi, or should I stay with D60? Chances are, I will be upgrading to a better one in maybe 3 years, and since DSLR upgrades involve mostly the body only, should I focus more on Lens and get D60, even though the XSi body has better spec? Thanks for your help, I am torn between the two. |

In the end, the best camera is ALWAYS the one that gets used, and if you buy a camera that you find uncomfortable or confusing or frustrating to work with, it's more likely to sit on a shelf collecting dust, where all the specs in the world don't mean a thing. |

just went to BB to tryout the 2, I think I am going to go with the Rebel XSi, 9 focus points really does it for me compared to the 3 point D60. A shame as I also wanted the 55-200 VR, but I guess it is not necessary. |
I just purchased a Canon 50D. this thing is amazing coming from a P&S!!! now i just gotta learn how to use! read the manual 4 times already, must keep reading it and taking shots! |
Hey guys, I'm a total noob when it comes to cameras but I'm in the market for a point and shoot. I'm looking in the $300 range and the main purpose will be to take a few pictures with friends/family and to take videos of some concerts I'll be going to. I probably won't develop anything bigger than 4x6's or the occasional 8x10 so I think 10.0MP will be sufficient? I'm don't intend on going all out on a camera but I don't want something really low end either. After looking around online I'm debating between these two. If there's a different camera in the $300 range you guys would recommend I would be open to those as well as long as they don't come in girly florescent colors. I haven't had the time to go to the store yet to see how these cameras feel in my hands but that would be a deciding factor for me as well. My only other criteria is I have to be able to purchase it locally. I know it's rather last minute of me but I'm going to a concert this weekend and I'm certain the camera won't reach me in time if I buy it online. Couldn't really find reviews on these two cameras so I'm looking for some input. Panasonic Lumix 10.0MP Digital Camera (DMCZS1K) - Black - $340. Slightly over my budget but it offers 12x optical zoom whereas most of the cameras in my price range only have 4x. Panasonic Lumix 12.0MP Digital Camera (DMCFS15) - Black - Future Shop Exclusive - $270. Just wanted to remind everyone I'm not a photography buff or anything but to my untrained eye the specs are fairly similar to the previous camera but with a 5x optical zoom. Thanks in advance! Update: Both concerts have passed, I went camera-less but I'm still interested in picking one up for the future. One feature I realized I wanted is the ability to zoom while in video mode. Unfortunately a few of the ones I was checking out didn't have this feature. |
im currently in the market for a hd camcorder, looking to spend around $600 - 800 prefer that it has HDD storage any suggestions? |
i really really want an everio |
anyone know any deals for canon xsi body? |
Should I buy a new DSLR or used DSLR? Any guys have any negative experiences with buying used? Because I could save a few hundred bucks going used path, but warranty may be of concern. Currently leaning towards the 40D now. |
^Can't go wrong with the 40D. I love mine, it's a fantastic all-around camera. Newer ones have other neat features like HD video and such, but the 40D is a solid performer in every respect. |
i found a website that would give me a pretty decent deal to trade in my XS for a 40D. i'm just waiting for them to get a used one in stock again.... i thought about selling my XS on ebay, but i did the calculations - and they rip you right off with the fees.... |
|
It seems to be pretty good, but is probably more noisy at high ISO compared to the XSi. I haven't used it yet though. |
juz bought the t1i from broadway camera today this is my first dslr i was gonna get the xsi but for 200 more u have the hd video im a complete noob when it comes to taking pictures but i really love how the pictures came out all i have to do is learn this camera and be good at it i definitely no regrets in buying one... |
I was thinking about a Nikon D80?? Anyone have experience with these? Any good with shooting cars? |
Are you buying used? The D80's been discontinued for a year and a half now. It's not a bad camera. Are you shooting stationary cars, or moving cars? |
Looking for a point and shoot with the highest quality hd video shooting. I wan't a slim point and shoot, not one of those larger models with a large lens. Can anyone think of anything better than the Lumix DMC LX3 and the Lumix DMC ZS3? I'm not sure if 900$ is in my budget for the new Olympus e-p1. And if not, what camera would you choose. Looking mostly for a decent camera, with exceptional video capabilities. |
