The Olympus has great image quality, but its AF is quite slow, and the screen is low-res.

So i'm an impulse buyer and bought the E-P1

I showed up at Lens and Shutter and they had one left.

I realized that what I cared about so much was having a good video camera, with decent photo's, and not the other way around. The video's taken with the E-P1 just by looking on youtube are exceptional. Even with the memory the video's take, its worth it to me. I'll let you know how it goes.

You bought a camera based on what the video looks like on Youtube??? The video looks like shit to me....jerky, with very low dynamic range. YMMV.

But in comparison to the D90 and d5000? the LX3? I even found them better than some of the T1i.

I still think for a point and shoot size this is decent enough for what I want.

true dat. I think i saw some panties.

I would not buy a camera solely based on it's ability to shoot videos though. I would buy a camear for the the quality of it's photos... Let's see some sample pics!!!!!

Could post a huge gaff about the cameras I am looking for but will make this short and sweet.

Here are the cameras I am interessted in and am fully aware of most details regarding them.(Upgrading from a XTI)

Nikon d90
Nikon d300
Nikon d700
Canon 50d
Canon 5d mark 2

Right now, out of that I am most intressted in the d300 and d700, but cant decide if the extra money for the full frame is worth it yet(going to school soon but not a pro).

How many Canon lenses do you have? If you have a few, it may be worthwhile to stay with Canon. If the lenses are all EF-S, then get the 50D. The D300 and the D700 may come down in price, as the replacements are coming out soon.

Hmmm, Thank you! I do have a few lenses, but have not seriously started to collect yet. I am still confused though:P. Was just reading about the d300s:P. I scheduling an interview to show my portfolio at Focal Point Photography school in a week or so I am going to hold out for at least a couple weeks and see what they say.

You're applying to the full-time program?? The person who will interview you is a Canon user, and doesn't know much about the Nikon system. If you're going to use it for school, then consider the Nikon D300. Buy it at a good price and buy a 17-55mm f2.8 and possibly a 70-200mm f2.8 & macro lens. Or you can get the 50D and use your current lenses.

Yea, I will be applying to the full time program. I have narrowed it down to the 50d vs 300d. Might just end up sticking with Canon. The price is right and everything seems to be quite comparable with the D300.

Does anyone think Canon will come out with another camera with video within the next year? Predictions based on previous years?

Thinking of a 50D...maybe.

They're comparable, but the D300 has less noise at high ISO.

Aren't you applying a bit late? You could have saved $2000 on your tuition if you had registered earlier. I graduated from the full time program last year, so feel free to ask me anything.

Canon should announce a 60D/7D within the next few days, according to rumors.

I'll be aiming for one of those camera's as my next.

I don't want to leap to full frame yet, I love my Tokina too much, so my only choice is 50D.

Plus 5DmkII would be too slow for sports.

If they come out with a 60D, I hope prices will drop on used 50D's substantially.

Anyone can tell me more about the Canon SX1? is it a good camera?

Im really liking it due to 1080p video recording and 20X optical zoom. However the draw back is it uses AA batteries.

Anyone can tell me something thats comparable in the same ballpark range?

Thanks alot

Why is it a drawback to use AA's?

i really dont know actually hahha, but seems more convenient to just charge one battery or plug in the camera to charge instead of 4 AA's

It can be... it can also be convenient to be able to just pick up a pack of AAs and toss'em in if your batteries die and there's no charger or outlets handy.

As Soundy wrote, sometimes when you're far from home, and your battery dies, if your camera takes AA's, then you just go to a store and buy them. You can't do that with the proprietary Lion batteries.

Hah...I quit Bistro Sakana over 2 years ago. I'm making far less money, but having far more fun doing photography. Haha.... BTW, does Albert Wong still work at MINI? We went to school together.

Of course, with a lot of DSLRs, you can have the best of both worlds: the battery grip for my 40D holds two Canon LiIon batteries, but also has a "carrier" that takes 6 AAs that you then insert into the battery compartment.
