So far so good, I didn't purchase any extended warranties though. They told me after 14 days I would have to deal with Canon directly.
It all really depends on the salesperson/store you go to aswell.

Ended up buying the D300s for $1574.99 + tax from FS. I'm just going to leave it in the box for a few days to see if other places are willing to beat that price. I'm also debating if it's too much camera for me right now and might settle for a D90.

I ended up picking up a T1i with the 18-55mm lens for $740 from FS. That's a pretty good price from what I've seen. Looking forward to playing around with it now.

Okay, got this from a friend today.... gave him my standard advice (pick the one that feels the most compfortable), and a link to a side-by-side on DPReview with a quick explanation of the difference in specs... but figured I'd see what everyone here thinks as well: Quote:

So .. what's the diff between the XSi, T1i and T2i? Obviously the MP, but what about other features? Are there features that the T1i or T2i have that I'd be missing out on if I went with the XSi?
I have a small Canon Point and Shoot right now, 3x optical zoom, 3MP. My beef with it is the zoom.. when I zoom in all the way, it's like looking at the scene with the naked eye and I'm not actually getting closer to the scene. So on one hand, if I'm going to spend the money on a dSLR, I don't want to miss out on useful features. On the other hand, I'm so new to this and don't want to make a living at digital photography, if there are more advanced features that I just won't use, I don't care if they're not there. Know what I mean?

Tell him to get an XSI, should last him for quite a long time, and he'll save money that he can use on lenses.

i vote t2i, at the price point the extra iso means extra stops for all his lenses, plus video
unless he purchases the xsi or t1i used, then i think it's worth it.

I have a question.
If I were to buy a camera from let's say ( www.bhphotovideo.com) which is in the US, will US customs unpackage it, or will they charge tax, or how exactly does this work... maybe it just comes straight to my house?
Usually when i bought lenses etc I comes straight to my door, but since the camera costs more just wanted to make sure.

I had bought some DC from bhphotovideo.com before. Your package will go through Canada Custom and you will probably end up paying 12 % (GST + PST) of the face value of your DC , so it will cost you extra. No import duty for lens or DC. Quote:

Anyone play with the latest crop of P&S's?
i had my eyes set on the S90 but the lack of 720P just kills it for me, and the LX3 seems too big ....
Now, I was looking at the DSC-HX5V, F80EXR, and DMC-ZS3
I'd also consider the canon SD###IS models but the numbers just baffle me and all the reviews seems so similar

The LX3 isn't big at all. Just avoid Nikon P&S, as they are POS.

Anyone know of any places they sell them online for a good price? I just looked around ebay and bhphotovideo, and let's say the 12% tax was added and the shipping it will cost almost the same as one here....
any places locally I can get a good price on just the body as well if not over the internet?

Just a heads up for anyone who's looking for a D300s body.
Future Shop is selling it for $1719.99, Lens and Shutter has it for $1549 until April 11. If you price match at FS, you can buy it for $1531.99... a savings of $188.
EDIT: FML. $1499.99 at Broadway Camera now. Luckily FS gave me another price match today. I don't think it would be fair to compare prices online with a local shop. You save a little bit of money but you don't get to try out what you want to buy beforehand. The only time I would buy online is if I don't have to try the item and the price was substantially lower.

The lens distortion on the S90 is horrendous - something you can't see in the JPEG due to the correction done by the camera. The correction also crops into the image so that an image shot at the widest setting isn't very wide anymore. Does he mention this? Err, no.
He does mention something that is correct IMO, that the S90 is more for the amatuer, and the LX3 is for someone who knows something about photography.
I personally prefer the LX3 due to the lens and controlability. The S90 isn't bad, I actually would not mind owning one, but the LX3 is better for my needs. The S90 may be a better camera for others.

But the more I think about it.. it seems to be a great complement to a SLR.. able to go places you normally wouldn't dare dream to bring your SLR.
