A crop factor (sometimes referred to as a "focal length multiplier", even though the actual focal length is the same) can be used to calculate the 35 mm equivalent focal length from the actual focal length. The most common multiplier ratios:

* 1.7ื — Sigma SD14, Sigma SD10, Sigma SD9, Canon EOS DCS 3†
* 1.6ื — Canon EOS 7D, 500D (T1i), Canon EOS 550D (T2i), 50D, 1000D, 40D, 400D, 30D, 450D, 20Da, 350D, 20D†, 300D†, 10D†, D60†, D30†
* 1.54ื — Pentax K20D, Pentax K-7
* 1.53ื — Pentax *istD†, Pentax *istDs†, Pentax *istDI s2†, Pentax *istDL†, Pentax *istDL2†, Pentax K100D†, Pentax K100D Super†, Pentax K10D, Pentax K200D
* 1.52ื — all Nikon DSLR cameras except the full-frame D3, D3s, D3x and D700; all Fuji, Sony (except for the full-frame α 850, α 900), and Konica Minolta DSLR cameras.
* 1.3ื‡ — Canon EOS-1D Mark IV, 1D Mark III , 1D Mark II (and Mark II N), EOS-1D?, Kodak DCS 460†, DCS 560†, DCS 660†, DCS 760†, Leica M8, M8.2

Taken from Wiki. So the focal length stays the same.

^^^ The Phase One P65+ sensor is a full frame medium format 645 sensor which is even larger than the Kodak KAF 3900. The 60MP Phase One is 40.4mmx53.9mm and the Kodak is 36mmx48mm. The Kodak KAF 3900 is an old sensor - at least 4 years old with only 31MP.

31MP, what a pile of crap! 60MP is where it's at! That's a crazy huge sensor on the Phase One back. I guess that's what you get for $50K or whatever it is, and of course alot more obviously. Thanks for the info! If you can bring one to the next photowalk, i'll there!

Hi guys, my dad is looking for a new camera that has a long zoom feature. He was offered Panasonic Lumix FZ35. I do not know much about camera and I am familiar with canon only. Canon has SX20IS, SX1IS and Nikon has P100. Which camera should I recommend my dad to buy?

Thanks

I currently have a D40 looking to upgrade. Would it be worth it getting a D90 or D300s or sticking to the D40 and then getting a few more lenses.

I have been on a photog slump and maybe a new camera might get me back in the groove! Check my sig for some of my pictures and tell me if its worth it to switch over!

I've always thought the D90 was a great camera for the price. I'd go for that! Or if you want a faster camera, and don't mind the size different go for the D300s. Goto a store and try them both out! I played around with both my friends D90 and D300 and they felt foreign to me, but awesome camera's!

Okay so for sure I'll be getting a 7D or 5DII soon. Lenses I have now include a 50mm 1.4 and a 24-105L. What I can't decide is whether or not to get the 7D or 5D... If I went with the 7D i'd sell the L for a 17-55 2.8 to make it easier on the wide side. I shoot mostly cars and portraits so I don't need the speed of a 7D but the auto focus on the 5D sounds barbaric. Are the video capabilities on the 7D (framerates) worth ditching FF over. I know the 5D is better in low light and the bokeh will be extremely creamy but I seriously can't decide.

I've had both the 5D MKiII and the 7D, i loved the 5D MKII for its the image quality and amazing ISO, but for what i shoot (nature, and sports) i perfered the 7D for its FPS, still amazing ISO for a crop sensor camera, auto-focus capabilities, gives me more reach with my longer lenses. I would still love to have a 1D MKIII, or a 1D MKIV one of these days. I've even thought about a 5Dc for a land-scape photography camera. I love the 17-40 F4L on a full-frame camera. On a crop sensor, not so much.

Over-all love my 7D!

are the going rates of the Holga 120N around $30 locally? It would be a neat film camera to play around with.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but when I was looking to buy a DSLR, I noticed that for $500, you cant really get much besides enry level cameras (D3000)?

Unless you buy used?

All depends what you're looking for.. sometimes a D3000 or XS or etc. is all you need.

hello again everyone I ended up selling my D40 along with the 18-55mm VR >.> I only have a 50mm 1.8. When I had my D40 I usually always ended up shooting with the 50mm as I found it was more fun and I got better shots with it. I mostly just use the 18-55 if I'm indoors or taking pictures at the occasion parties with family or friends. I have a limited budget as well ~$1800 taxes in.

Now I have some options:

D90 + 18-55mm VR
Battery Grip
85mm f1.8D

Or just the D90 with the 85mm + 50mm and using the extra money from the battery grip and the 18-55mm and starting to save for a 17-50mm.

A D300s with just the 50mm 1.8.

I know that the D90 seems like the obvious choice with the extra glass I could possibly get but I can't help but think that the D300s will be a better investment, it'll just take me longer to get all the glass I want/need.

I've held them and felt both of them and I still can't decide

Have you considered the D90 kit with the 18-105mm? It's quite a decent lens.

I wasn't really looking into it but its only $60 more at broadway camera!

D90 Body
18-105mm kit lens
85mm f1.8/D
50mm f1.8/D
MB-D80 Battery Grip

Looks pretty solid as opposed to the D300s with just the 50mm. I should just stop considering it right? Unless I somehow manage to get the budget for it .

Apparently the D90 was the best-selling dSLR in Japan for the first 6 months of 2010:
http://translate.google.com/translat...ml&sl=ja&tl=en

I'm pretty impressed by that seeing how it's an older camera compared to all the new fancy Canons.

Unless you absolutely need weather-sealing, a tougher metal body, and faster AF-system, I see no point in getting the D300s when you can get the majority of the features in the D90 (including picture quality).

Glass > body. Spend more on good lenses.

I've got a question and wasn't sure where to ask this and didn't want to start a new thread.
I wear glasses and I find that this seems to interfere with how clear my photos turn out. To me when I'm taking the picture it'll look fine, but once it goes onto my computer I can see that well they're blurry as fuck. This probably happens 1/10 photos or something like that but some of those photos were important moments. Does anyone have any tips for me?

Just picked up a Nikon D3000 for $450 at bestbuy. I am a newbie and I love the camera. Still learning lots. Downloaded an instructional video by elitevideo.com. They have some very easy instructional videos on cameras.
