I've had my D60 for about a year now and I wanna upgrade. I'm thinking of picking up a D80 or D90 (body only) and keeping my D60. I love my D60 and all but I'm a little bothered that it doesn't have an auto-focus motor built in and Nikon decided not to make a battery grip for D40/D40x/D60. What do you guys suggest?

You can get the D90, as it is still a great camera, but I expect a replacement to be announced soon.

what about the micro four thirds interchangeable lens cameras. i saw an olympus E-PL1 that looks pretty decent.

^^^ Why the hell did you fail xclusive's post?? There's nothing wrong with the D3000. It will be replaced with a D3100 soon though.

My friend has the Panasonic GF1, and it's quite amazing. I expect the Olympus cameras to be quite good too. The one camera I haven't seen or tried yet is the new Sony NEX cameras. Unfortunately their kits can't be interchanged (like NEX-5 and pancake) atm or so I'm told, so I'll wait a bit. The zoom kit looks kinda funny with the NEX, but it seems well built. Personally I think it defeats the portability, but it's still smaller than the smallest SLRs. Plus panorama sweep is so cool I love it on my TX-7.
Also the prices for the NEXs given the specs was really good (cheaper than the other 2 EVIL cams).
I haven't tried the Pana G series, but given the reviews on the 20mm I'm still keen on pairing that with a PEN.  | |

D3000 is only $400 at future shop with the kit lens, not a bad alternative if your budget was to buy a higher end point and shoot.

I have a D3000 and its a good camera if you are on a tight budget. around 400 bucks. I guess this camera is more for beginner SLR users. The guide mode is just an easy illustrated way for people to quickly take good pictures without looking at manual and changing the settings. It changes the settings for you. That being said, it also has many of the functions and capabilities a normal DSLR would have.

I currently have the Nikon D40. Thinking about upgrading to a Nikon D90. I'm wondering if their is a place where I can do like trades or something. I know that http://www.multipleelectronics.com does it. But anyone know where else?

The Nikon D90 and the 18-105mm is a nice combo! Should take nice pic's of hair and makeup! Maybe get yourself a 50mm F1.8 too!

Hey guys, I'm hoping you guys can help me out here on a future purchase and clear up some confusion I have. So I'm looking to get into the whole DSLR world and am looking for advice on what to get.
I was originally looking to get a Canon T1i with the kit lens to start off with and then purchase more lenses as I am able to afford them. When starting to look into lenses I discovered the whole cropped sensor vs. full frame thing. I would eventually want to get a Full Frame in the future some time so I'm guessing I would need to be getting EF lenses and not EF-S, as I believe they're not compatible with a FF, but then I would not be getting the full range of the EF Lenses on a crop sensor. And the idea of having to buy all new lenses when I make the jump from crop to FF doesn't really seem like something I want to do.
I'm looking to just start shooting for a hobby. Would like to do mostly portrait/landscape styles and have always liked the wide angle type of photos.
So my main question is, should I still look to a T1i or look to getting a possible used 40D or 50D?? I'm looking to spend around $7-800 and from what I was coming across on craigslist and stuff it looks as I could possibly get a 40D or 50D body somewhat in that range but then I wouldn't have any lens to shoot with as I would be spending my budget on just the body.
So any advice would be greatly appreciated and if anything I said above is inaccurate, please correct me as my only "knowledge" so far on the subject has been reading up stuff online.

If anything goes wrong with the camera or lens, Nikon Canada WILL NOT repair any Nikon product bought outside of the country even if you offer to pay for the repair.
For what you want to do, a D90 will be a great camera, but you might also want to consider the D3000 or D5000 as they are cheaper but will not compromise image quality. An ideal lens might be the 35mm f1.8.

Also why is the 40D recommended over the T1i? just curious as I remember reading somewhere that the T1i is quite similar to the 50D

I'll probably let Senna talk about anything in terms of Image Quality...
I have a 40D, and i found that the 40D/50D's are a bigger body camera, more suitable for bigger lenses (ie, something other than the Kit Lens), I found there's better balance when you hold the camera
as well, there is the LCD on top of the camera, so it's much easier to look at the basic settings of the camera (Shutter, Aperture, White Balance... etc etc), and the row of buttons (as well as circular selector) allows for much quicker changing of the settings while you're shooting.
