Just picked up an lx5 from hk. Intelligent auto all the way. Flash control is so good. About time I upgraded my p&s g7 lol. I still prefer the canon for manual ease of use. Lx5 menu is hard for me. Just need to get used to it though. But It is a really really really good camera. Its funny to me how they give u that switch to change aspect ratio on the lens pretty useless feature imo and makes it look busier. Posted via RS Mobile |
what made u pick it over the s95? |
Was pretty blown away by the LX3's performance to begin with, and very wide angle is good since that's what the Point and Shoot should do good at ie. parties etc, still have a 7D anyways. Macro was really good 1cm minimum focusing and leica lens can't go wrong. The case that my dad brought looks pretty silly though, 2 piece leather, Also looking to get a strap for the lens cap, lens won't open without it off but don't want to be throwing it all around the place |
Any comments on low light shooting? |
i was just taking some shots of gf and I making sushi with it, the shutter speeds of 1/20 were easily controlled by the IS, Also when indoors taking close ups, you'd expect your typical P&S flash to be overexposed but this controls it perfectly. Still biggest gripe is how useless manual focus is, but not really a downfall since the iA mode is very reliable and easy. Compared the 800iso with the 7D on my sigma 17-70 2.8-4 macro, Differences were that the LX5 was sharper but also significantly noisier and the 7D had very little noise, haha I guess that's what you pay for. Another silly thing about the LX5 that I didn't expect is that at 24-35mm the flash will cast a shadow off of the lens, something that you expect from SLRs which is kind of annoying but yeah no biggie |
I see. So probably not a huge improvement over my G11. |
Picked up the LX3 and low light shots definitely look great! I'm in the market for a screen protector now but I want to buy it locally. I went to Daiso today and bought their 3" screen protector and it's way too small. I want to buy something that will cover the entire screen I would prefer NOT to buy it online because I don't want to wait for it to come in the mail and find out it doesn't fit properly. |
i gotta say... of all the screen protectors i've ordered online that explicitly stated that it was made for a specific model, they always fit perfectly ... but i see how that could frustrate someone. maybe i got lucky. i went with my friend to get his DSLR screen protector put on at Broadway Camera @ Aberdeen. I don't really like their service in general, but the guy was VERY good at putting it on. Was about $10 give or take. |
The one you got at daiso was probably a widescreen 3" I made that mistake before too >.< But yeah regular camera 3" screen protectors should be pretty universal/common http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/va...961815672.html $4 only on craigslist haha, pretty reasonable IMO I stuck one on my 7D but haven't bothered and don't think I will bother with the LX5 yet since I know it'll always be in a case |

I'm also going to buy a wrist strap. I just can't picture myself using the supplied neck strap. It was an absolute bitch trying to find a screen protector that fit properly. I went to Crystal Mall and none of the shops there had one. Ended up buying these overpriced 3.5" Giottos ones from Kerrisdale Camera and still had to trim off maybe 5mm of material. |
You should get that permanent lens cap. It stays on and the lens pushes through and opens it. |

an extra 30mm (35mm equivalent) on the tele end is pretty big. Considering at the long end it's f/3.3, which is pretty good. I think with the lx3/5 you're giving up reach for a faster lens. For what you're looking for (reach), the Canon SX20 IS and the Panasonic FZ35 get good reviews. |
ok im looking for wide angle lens like the lx3 least 5x zoom,10mp. lens can be slower. |
anyone have an idea on when the 5D MK III is gonna come out? been thinking of getting a MK II, but not sure if i should wait or just buy now. i know 2011 "should" be the year to renew the 5D IF canon follows the 3 year life cycle, but who knows what canon is thinking. if it's comming out in a few months then i'll wait, but 6> months i'll settle with the MK II. |
what you guys think lx3 for $350 cdn or DMC-ZS7 $250 usd which one? |

Worst comes to worst you can crop the pictures if you don't have enough zoom. You can't "save" blurry photos later on. If price is a concern, I wouldn't mind shelling out an extra $100 if the camera fits my needs. |
