I wanted a point and shoot for the times where I don't want to bring out my DSLR (ex. taking quick pics of something I want to sell) or places that don't let you bring in "professional cameras" (ex. concerts, sporting events.) Concerts and hockey games are pretty dim environments so I chose the LX3.

I can justify trading off the extra bit of reach for a larger aperture for my purposes. When I'm shooting with my DSLR, the majority of the pictures I take with my standard zoom (17-50mm) is plenty. There is the occasional shot where I wish I had my telephoto lens on but a large zoom didn't seem so important to me after weighing out my options.

The zoom and HD video were the key features that made the ZS7 more appealing to me compared to the LX3 but they were not as high on my priority list.

You just have to list out what your priorities are and find a camera with those features in your budget since there's no one camera that can do it all.

how many shots does a lx3 last, found someone selling one that has approx 3000 shots, is that high or low?

LiquidTurbo 10-03-2010 10:51 AM

Need to get rid of my D40... since I started making large prints (15x11) and you really can see the lack of resolution.

Should I get the D5000? It looks awfully good... as in possibly better than the D300s in just about every way, even though its supposed to be in between the D90 and D300s.

Point and shoot you don't have to worry about that much. 3000 is ok if the price is good.

You mean D7000? I does seem good - I can't wait to try it out.

Oops yes of course, the D7000. Can't find too many flaws with it and 16.2MP!

LX3 is 399 on clearance at LD, if you're in the market, just thought I'd give the heads up.

Too good to be true?

mickz 10-04-2010 09:34 PM

I would never buy from an online retailer that did not at least have a physical address listed on their site.

I currently have a Nikon D40, wanting to upgrade to the D90 because of the price drop it had. But I'm also looking at the D7000, I know it would be worth it getting the D7000. But would I regret getting the D90 instead of the D7000?

Is this a good deal, or should I wait until boxing day to get a camera? This is going to be my first dslr. Don't mind waiting a few months, just want a good deal on one.
Gonna go do some more searching and reading.

gars 10-08-2010 01:26 PM

seems like a pretty good deal. Honestly, boxing day is almost 3 months away. If you think in those 3 months, you'd actually use the camera, then I would just get it now. Cameras are like all electronics, if you wait some more, you might be able to get it cheaper. I'd just invest the money now (if it's a good price, and it is) and don't look back.

I would suggest going there and playing with the interface. Some people like the canon interface, some like the Nikon, some like the Alpha...

Alatar 10-08-2010 05:15 PM

Pretty good deal as it includes the extra canon battery and canon battery grip.

aznrsx1979 10-09-2010 08:17 AM

I'd say it's a good deal. Even if you don't use the battery grip you're still gonna have a spare battery.

Like gars said above, electronics is one thing there's no point waiting around for. There's always gonna be something newer and better around the corner, but if you decide you like it you might as well get it.

BinsentoW 10-14-2010 04:09 AM

How often do you guys use the battery grip? The reason im asking is because I bought the package with that accessory kit, but saw another deal for the t1i without the kit.
Basically Im paying $160 for the grip, extra battery, the UV filter, and the bag (which I probably wont be using that much).
I don't think I'll NEED an extra battery, although it can be useful. So it basically comes down to the grip and UV filter.
Sorry for asking so many noob questions. Its my first SLR, so Im not sure what I need or not.

Edit: Its this kit Im talking about

it's all personal preference.

for the rebel bodies, i very much appreciate a grip because the body itself is too small imo. the grip adds some nice weight (for the rebels), and makes shooting portrait more comfortable. I even use a grip on my 50D mainly for ergonomics.

And having extra battery life on a shoot doesn't hurt either.

I called Broadway Camera.
They said mid-end October.

Gh0stRider 10-17-2010 12:53 PM

hows the Canon PowerShot SX210 IS? or Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7?

Looking for a mega zoom compact camera. sx210 is 14x and ZS7 is 12x

ddr 10-17-2010 01:05 PM

get mine =)

but the zs7 is by far the most popular one that's actually compact for >10x zoom. also has great reviews.

Shipping either last week of October, or first week of November. There is only one in Canada right now, and it was at a trade show in Toronto this past weekend.
