Personally - I'm not really sold on in-camera editing. If someone doesn't like to edit in a simple program like Picassa on a computer - how does a small screen with small buttons make editing easier on a camera...?

Well it comes down to 2 choices. The D90 or D3100.. Other then the monitor pixel difference i dun see any other major differences.

Would u guys recommend the D3100 or should i save up a bit more and go for the D90?

If I remember correctly the D3100 doesn't have an internal AF motor?

Would definitely be a deal breaker for me.

D7000. Incredible image quality from a crop sensor DSLR.

Should go to a store and get a feel of the D90 and D3100 and see what is comfortable in your hands as well. I felt the D3100 incredibly small in my hands, I was only able to grip 1/2 the camera LOL. I guess I have big hands

My family and I are looking to invest into an SLR Camera (After having a 5.2 MP Point and Shoot for the last 8 years LOL).

We're looking for something affordable (so pretty much entry level), and can shoot HD video as well. I've been doing some research and there are a couple of models at future shop/ best buy that I want to take a look at, but it wouldn't kill me for a second opinion here (maybe you guys have places with cheaper cameras). I'm not a heavy photographer, but it's something I want to start getting into, so that's our budget isn't so high. (If anyone has an old camera that they're willing to part with PM me!)

Any help is appreciated.

I don't want to make a new thread for this, but it's not camera lens related ..

Where can I buy a battery grip for my T2I that'll give me a side strap?

I hate the big long strap and it gets in the way when I mount my t2i to a tripod. I'm going to buy a grip no matter what but I'd just rather it came with that side strap. Ever since I got a heavier lens it feels so unbalanced.

I've seen those straps on eBay. One end loops into the neckstrap loop and the other end goes into the tripod screw mount. Here's one on eBay.

Noice strap! don't you feel like less of a tourist now? hehe. Awesome part is this will work with the generic $60 grip I want, I'll add oem batteries to it though

^does the generic grip not have the second loop for a normal hand strap? so you can avoid the stuff on the bottom going into the tripod mount.

I have a couple of the canon hand straps still in the packages, never used them, I like using the neck strap when changing lenses without having to sit down or rest the camera on anything.

Oh and look into Sterlingtek batteries. Just as good as OEM, sometimes better, but most important is they are cheeeeap compared to oem.

Will look into the sterlingtek batteries but I definitely do not want knockoffs because apparently they overheat/crappy battery life.

And no, the knock off does not have the strap, and i also do not believe the OEM one does either.

I think I read in the listing that it has another screw hole for the tripod mount on the strap. I can't really tell from the picture - I'm just going by what it says on the description.

I've had pretty good luck with Lenmar generic batteries. They're kind of a name brand company (unlike the eBay cheapie) with a warranty. Amazon in the US sells them for pretty cheap. ($30 for the DLZ302 for the T2i) I've had good luck with them on the various cameras I've used them for.

I did try Sterlingtek once, but didn't have a good experience with them. (battery wouldn't hold a charge after the 2nd charge of the battery) However, it was the one and only battery I bought from them so I probably just got one particular bad one. A lot of the people on various forums swear by Sterlingtek so it's worth giving them a look as well.

No no, does it have the mount for the strap:

So you don't have to use the tripod hole. If the generic grip has that, then you can use the normal canon strap

Just got a D7000 and updated the firmware to 1.01. Do I still have anything to worry about? DSLR noob here so pros please chime in!

So thanks to your guys posts I figured out that the grip I want, even the knock off has the handle mount area, which is awesome.

What do you guys think of this grip?

I mostly just want it because of the LCD lol ... I do need a grip because my cameras become extremely front heavy and the battery life kinda sucks. I'm going to buy OEM batteries + this grip, should I do it?! Anything I should be worried about? (again I'm using OEM batteries).

And my yongnuo stuff arrived! ahhh

Unfortunately, the D7000 tends to electrocute the user sometimes if the buttons are pressed in a certain sequence - other times it just explodes, decapitating the photographer.

Just kidding... The D7000 has the best image quality of any of the APS-C DSLR's on the market right now. It's amazing how much shadow detail can be brought out without noise in Lightroom3. Well, not as good as a 5DmkII or D700, but way better than a 7D or D300s. We've had some come through with AF issues such as front or back focusing, but the newer ones seem to have been fixed. Nikon will fix it for you at the Richmond repair depot for free if your camera is affected.
