insomniac 04-12-2011 12:18 AM

i pretty much have my eyes set on getting a EVIL camera.
ive been wanting a nex 5 for quite a while..
should i get a nex 5 or save some money and get a nex 3?
is nex 5 worth the extra money? i can pick up the nex 3 for 200ish whereas a nex 5 for 500 ish

ddr 04-12-2011 12:28 AM

200ish is a pretty good deal...

Is this $200 used? That's a pretty good deal for NEX 3....

insomniac 04-12-2011 10:23 AM

well more like 250 haha
but yeah the price is the only reason why i considered the nex 3..
is it worth to pay another 250+ for a nex 5?

Best APS-C DSLR in terms of image quality on the market right now. You can pull so much shadow detail out of the RAW files (using Lightroom3) compared to even a Canon 7D.

Some bodies have AF issues out of the box, but Nikon in Richmond will fix it within 48 hours in our experience.

Chronix 04-19-2011 07:27 AM

need a good mid end camera that can be used to film HD and function as a normal camera.

any recommendations?

How do I test for 'AF' issues?

I'm pretty happy with the E-PL1 I picked up last week, it's pretty fun, I have the LX5 as well but the LX5 IMO is more expensive and less fun but I feel like the low light performance is better, neither are as user friendly as canon interface IMO though. I'm still very happy with my good ol' G7 though haha

EDIT: I got my E-PL1 off newegg, it was a refurb but it was pretty cheap IMO, worked out to about 380 including tax + shipping and arrived in 3 business days :)

the lx5 has better iso performance than the epl1? then if the s95 does this slightly better than the lx5, i'd b disappointed with the epl1 ... when i saw that link i was kinda excited haha.

Senna4ever 04-21-2011 11:27 PM

I can't believe the LX5 is better than the Olympus....the sensor is many times larger.

I will try to take some side by sides with the 3 cameras when I get back to van but yeah the e-pl1's noise handling is pretty poor even at ISO 400-640. Mind you I just have the 14-42 kit lens which has a pretty small aperture. I'll try to take some side by sides with the E-PL1 and the LX5 when I get back to van, in the end I still brought the E-PL1 over the LX5 with me to HK because I prefer the UI and I think it's a lot more fun to use. I would not hesitate to recommend it as long as you don't plan on taking too many non-tripod night shots.

Looking for a pistol grip flash memory camcorder with at least 720p. Preferrably something with good low-light and indoor performance. Budget, around $300... any recommendations?

TeriyakiSawce 05-07-2011 12:50 AM

Any ideas when the D90 will be discontinued? I'm thinking about buying one but i'm not sure if the price will drop during the summer. Also, are there any alternatives to the D90 that would be worth considering? Thanks.

Senna4ever 05-07-2011 10:23 AM

Don't bother with the D90...the D7000 is superior in image quality and features.

!SG 05-07-2011 07:20 PM

im kinda holding out for the speculated D7100. should be an upgrade to the D7000 but with the D5100's 30fps video, dual card slots, and swivel screen.

its only natural they should apply all the goodies from the d5100 to an upgrade to the D7000.

Senna4ever 05-07-2011 07:52 PM

The D7000 just came out, so the replacement won't be out for a while. The D7000 has dual SD card slots too.

TeriyakiSawce 05-08-2011 01:36 AM

Well I don't have a lot of cash to spend and i'm just getting into the hobby. I just wanna see what photography is like. So you recommend the D7000 for my case?

Senna4ever 05-08-2011 01:43 AM

Then go with the D3100 or D5100.

The cheapest used dSLR you can find on craiglist, unless $1500 isnt a lot of cash to you.
