I'm using a 7D and am very happy with the higher ISO performance, but I'm willing to go out on a limb here and say that the noise performance of the 3100 should be pretty good and comparable with the t2i.
Either way my biggest pet peeve is the feel of the 3100 and t2i, you don't get the top screen and when you hold them they both feel plasticky and toyish. Have you considered buying used, and also the T3 might be a more comparable price to the 3100?

Well, T2i is still $869.00 at the stores and almost no differences between that and the T3i. Pivot viewfinder seems to be the only major upgrade, everything else is the same..
The D3100 doesn't have an external mic output, poor resolution view finder but I can get 2 lenses with it and for cheaper.
The 550D seems better long term and a better investment overall. Thinking of going with the T2i.. Posted via RS Mobile |

Unless you have money to burn, or make gigantic prints often I don't see the need. The D90 is probably one of the best consumer cameras ever made. Just my opinion. IMO if you're going to spend hundreds of dollars to upgrade, you won't see as big of a return as if you spend that on high quality photography books, or maybe a lens that suits ur style of shooting. Most people almost never hit the limits of the D90. Its often a skill ceiling, not a camera ceiling. Posted via RS Mobile

Looking to upgrade by winter from a Nikon D60. Currently looking at Nikon D7000 and a Canon 60D but I'm looking to stay with Canon since I don't wanna switch my entire gear over. As expected, D90 has been dropping in price so I actually considered "upgrading" to that instead and spend the few extra $$ on a lens or something. Thoughts?
I'm only buying the body + battery grip and maybe a 35mm F1.8 lens. Currently have a kit 18-55MM and Sigma 55-200MM. Yes, I think it's necessary to plan it now so I know what I can and can't buy until I upgrade haha

Did you mean you're looking to stay with Nikon? I'll assume so.
If you just want to take great pictures, forget getting a new body and invest in lenses. The D60 is a fine camera and with 10mp you have plenty of resolution headroom. You'll see a nice difference in image quality (in lower light conditions) by getting a 1.8 35mm or 50mm lens.
If you want to upgrade you need to know why you want to upgrade. Better pics? Ability to shoot video? The "feel good" factor?
I was shooting with a D70 and came damn close to pulling the trigger on a D90 because it shoots HD video. My roommate at the time bought one and I was jealous. All I had was this lousy D70 that shot pics at 6mp. Whoopdefuckindoo! But then I realized that his pics looked no better than mine so I didn't feel so jealous any more. The only thing I was missing was HD video and the more I learned about the D90 the more I realized I did not want it because I wanted the option that the cool Canon's have, external microphone input, and the D90 does not have this.
If you are going to upgrade because you want the most features for a reasonable price get the D7000 body. You have external microphone input (if you ever need it), better low light performance (lens for lens), a better autofocus system, newer and better sensor, two instant recall modes (saves settings for when you need them), a better metering system (the d90 has the same one as your d60) and dual SD card inputs. This is a feature I really like about my D7000. I can use two cards with the second acting as an overflow. Two 8gb cards will be used as one 16gb card. You can also set the second card to record RAW images while the first records in JPG. Or, you can have the second act as a backup for the first.
So again, if you want to upgrade you need to identify why. For better pictures, keep your D60 and buy better glass. The D90 is not a huge upgrade from the D60 but going to the D7000 is. If you want a better feature set for more freedom, get the D7000. I always enjoyed my D70 but to be honest, I enjoy photography more now with my D7000 than I ever have before.

^oops typo HAHA. That was suppose to say "I'm staying with Nikon"
When I bought my D60, I wasn't intending to use it for this long since I just started getting into photography at the time and it seemed like a good choice for an entry level camera. Would have gone the used route and grab a D40x or D70 but I had a $200 BestBuy gift card. K now that's out of the way..
The MAIN reason why I'm upgrading is that the D60 lacks an auto-focus motor. I have a Sigma 55-200MM (I got it as a birthday present from my uncle) and I use it quite a bit wherever I'm out. I honestly don't mind manual focusing from time to time but it's been getting really annoying not having an auto-focus. I also have a Tokina 10-17mm Fisheye (well it's my uncles but he still hasn't asked for it haha) and yeah that doesn't auto-focus as well. Had I known that I needed a built-in auto focus motor when I was buying a new camera, I would have gotten a D70s instead.
The second reason is that it's too small for me. I have huge hands and a lot of the time it feels like the D60 is going to slip out of my hands. I was going to buy a battery grip for it but I found out Nikon stupidly decided not to make one for it. There was third party options but I wasn't too comfortable with using those. Another minor annoyance is it lacks a top LCD screen - it's not a deal breaker but when I was shooting with a D80 for a week, I found having a top LCD screen was more convenient. I do planning on shooting a few videos but I won't need the top notch quality and it's use isn't going to be primarily video or else I would have picked the 60D without a question. How much can I get for my D60 + kit lens 18-55MM w/Hoya UV filter? Going on vacation at the end of August and it'd be nice if I can upgrade by then.

15-85. after u shoot for a while you'll realize how little you use the 55-250.
then again, u might not appreciate the sharpness of the 15-85 until you try something else first =p

just gonna threadjack for a bit here (don't want to create a new thread... and it seems like RS purged a lot of old threads anyways)
Where should I go to get decent 4"x6" prints?
I don't need like professional grade prints, but just consumer grade quality.
London Drugs? Stupidstore? Blacks?

been looking into getting into photography for a while now, used my buddies camera last time when i took it to a car meet and i really like taking pics of cars and messing around with settings and stuff to give it that "HD" look. So what owuld you recommend for a rookie getting into it lets say ? somewhere prob in the range of 3-4 bills
