here is a good comparison. Canon T3i vs T2i
seems like the t2i is the clear winner unless you need the flip screen. I love this site.. compares all the cameras if ur just looking at specs.

Which would you guys recommend for a small backup camera? Budget less than $200.
Canon Elph 100hs or Panasonic DMCFH25K?
Canon - Smaller, CMOS sensor, but only 4x zoom
Panasonic - Larger, CCD sensor, but has 8x zoom
Canon seems to be getting much better review for picture quality, but 4x zoome seems really limiting...thoughts?

Mann i was down in Portland a while back and didnt remember to look at cameras. Pricing is same as up here in Van but without taxes.
Anywhere near seattle is probably closely similar to the prices up here.

Purchased t2i today that comes with that stock lens, and also picked up the 'nifty fifty' lens.
Stoked to learn how to use it. What's best way to learn? Photography for dummies? Lol Posted via RS Mobile |

Owners Manual | I got the same camera. I started out with aperture priority mode (I believe it's called), and just let the camera handle ISO/shutter length for me, and I controlled focal length. I played around with the different focal lengths and basically saw how they affected focus of different objects. I did that for a few weeks and it taught me tons! Then I got a tripod and started screwing around with night time photography, and as a result had to learn how to manipulate ISO/shutterspeed as well as Focal length.
Btw, I have the stock lens, a 18-50mm Sigma, and the 50mm F2.8, and the latter is my favourite by far (also the cheapest, paid $100 for it). As long as you can fit the scene you need into the 50mm lens, its idiot proof. It makes anything and everything look amazingly detailed and sharp with excellent bokeh

The 50mm is next on my list. and a proper tripod.
Ive been playing around with all the modes and think i understand what most of em do.
In auto mode the AF is a bit slow...... anyone else feel that? Sometimes it takes a good 1-2 seconds to properly focus.

Don't use Auto, you'll never learn/learn a lot slower. IMO the best way to learn is go shooting with people who have are a bit more experienced than you. Of course there's YouTube but watching videos can only do so much.
If you guys are down for some photo meets/photo walks I'm down haha (if my schedule works)

Are you shooting indoors with low light? Having it in AF mode will be slow since it will have a harder time locking down the focus.

Btw, all reviews online say the nikon D5100 is better than t2i, but I had 3 diff salespeople (broadway camera and futureshop) talk me out of it.. Even though it would have been a bigger sale. Any reason for this? Posted via RS Mobile |

If a particular product fits YOUR needs, then that is the product for you. There may have been some employee incentives to sell the T2i.

I'm using a D90 right now and I've been looking at getting the D7000. I want to play around with a camera that can shoot videos a bit better.
I can get one for around $800 body only. Yay or nay?

When i used my friend's Nikon D60 it was like instant focus. Quote:

Depends on what lens you have too. Some lenses tend to focus faster than others.

thanks | Canon BG-E9 Battery Grip for 60D - Canada and Cross-Border Price Comparison - photoprice.ca
If you get it from the states, it isn't as bad - B+H will include all the HST/fees, so you know exactly how much you're paying.
I've heard good things about Phottix - in terms of their grips. Phottix 60D Grip for Canon 60D
don't know if you'd get charged duty or anything though.

But I'll see how it goes. $200 for an upgraded body with the option to do video isn't too bad.
The main thing I'm really going after is the video, hopefully I can get some good quality video from it as I really want to start experimenting with videography.

For somethings I'd say that the service plan is worth and for others it really isn't.
I work at bb right now and I have to sell the service plan and it really isn't too bad for a DSLR. You'll most likely be using it a lot and will be taking a lot of pictures. With the service plan, you don't really have to worry about your shutter dying at all. Another benefit is that you don't have to ship it anywhere (Canon's repair center being in Ontario) and you just bring it to any bb. But Nikon's center is in Richmond so you don't need to really worry about shipping it there. You'll also get a replacement if it is unfixable or it's been serviced > 3 times.
For somethings it just really isn't worth it though lol.
Also got the D7000 today! and a Manfrotto 190XB for $139.99 :O price matched with Canadian Shoppe or something
