for a mid-high end point-and-shoot camera , what are some of my better options right now?

LiquidTurbo 11-26-2011 08:21 PM

Canon S95 or S100.

Depends if you think GPS, slightly longer zoom and 1080p video are worth $150. That and good luck finding an S100

Those are the main differences if I recall correctly. I've seen the S95 for about $300USD right now on sale. The S100 apparently is still on back order (though Best Buy in the US managed to get a batch of them somehow). The backorder situation is because of the flooding in Thailand.

In any case, I put in an order at J&R for an S100 since I already sold my S90. Still waiting for it after a whole month...

How does the COOLPIX P300 compare to the S95/S100?

looking at a 5D Mk II this weekend.

Vale46Rossi 12-07-2011 07:27 AM

Quick question :

I have a D90 right now with the normal 18-105

I am thinking of getting a D7000 with 18-200

Is that a good upgrade?

Go for it! They're $1999 now including the $300 instant rebate. Just got word from Canon that a 5DmkII replacement probably won't be shipping until Q3 of next year.

From what I've seen, the 18-105 is the sharper lens.

[Adorama] GF3+2 lens for $499US

the lens in the package aren't very tempting though. I suppose you can sell these two for most of the package price? haha

Do you need 105-200mm? probably not.

What would be a good point and shoot camera to purchase? My budget is around 200-350.

So far I've heard good reviews about nikon coolpix s9100 and Cannon PowerShot Sx230 on pc world. And the P300 from LiquidTurbo's post.

I will be going away to hong kong and china. Would they have cheaper cameras there?

I'm in the same boat. Looking for a decent point and shoot camera in the $250 range. What should I be looking at?

^ I tested a few at futureshop and best buy, got to say they all suck... Even the most expensive are not that great for the price.

But out of all i found that the Canon Powershot ELPH 300HS is pretty good in sharpness and color. Plus its only 189.00 :) i bought it as a gift for xmas

I'm trying to decide between the Canon Elph300 and the Nikon Coolpix s6100. Any thoughts on which is better?

N.V.M. 12-17-2011 01:30 PM

No, I'd never use a 5DmkII for birds/wildlife. I would use either a 7D or 1DmkIV. 1DmkIII is ok too, but you're limited to 10MP and its AF issues that seem to crop up now and again.

N.V.M. 12-17-2011 07:08 PM

i made sure this is not in the "AF issue" batch of cameras(i checked serial numbers before i bought it).

yeah, i'd like to use a Mk IV too, came up a couple grand short though, lol.

Senna4ever 12-17-2011 07:13 PM

I've had AF issues with the 1DmkIV too.

Does anyone know if you're able to purchase the Sony NEX-5...

with the lenses in BLACK?

Very tempted to buy the NEX-5 on special for boxing day...but the silver lenses on black body kind of bothers me.

According to their website:
Alpha NEX Lenses | Sony | Sony Store USA
Only the Carl Zeiss 24mm with f/1.8.....for $999.99 is offered in black.

But I seen pictures of the 18-55mm offered in black. Maybe other markets???

http://www.dcresource.com/images/new...L1855-1200.jpg

Instead of this:

FN-2199 12-20-2011 10:36 PM

60D 50mm 1.8 + 55-200 + 320EX + bag for $1500! Good deal?
