Very tempted to buy the NEX-5 on special for boxing day...but the silver lenses on black body kind of bothers me.

According to their website:
Alpha NEX Lenses | Sony | Sony Store USA
Only the Carl Zeiss 24mm with f/1.8.....for $999.99 is offered in black.

But I seen pictures of the 18-55mm offered in black. Maybe other markets???

Instead of this:
Spoiler!
are u talking about best buy'x boxing day sale? if so, anyone want to chime in whether $450 for a nex-5 with 18-55mm and an hvl-f7s flash is a good deal? can't afford a a 5n

edit: link removed.

be super careful, everyone! Craigslist is FULL of Western Union scammers right now, as well as stolen shit. obviously they are always present, but i'm saying they're everywhere right now. fuck, how many different guys could have just won a Nikon V1 or J1 at a company Christmas party?

Nikon has donated quite a few of them, so you never know. But certainly buyer beware.

^Talk about choices...can't decide between:

- NEX-5 that's being discontinued
- GF2 / GF3

or just stick with something like
- S100
- LX-5

I do have a DSLR, just that....I need/want something smaller than hauling that thing around everyday.

went into bestbuy today to compare the feeling of the nex5n (closest thing to a nex5 there) and the gf3 (since gf2's arent on display anymore). the nex5 just seems to feel right. looks amazing as well. holding the gf3 was alright but it felt a bit odd. not as comfortable in my hands in my opinion.

+1 The GF3's size felt a bit too small to be comfortable.
Furthermore, Futureshop had the 14-42mm "power" zoom lens attached to their demo unit, which I didn't quite like...

Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a dslr. Completely new to using/buying dslr. What is your advice? A buddy recommended me to go with Canon EOS Rebel T1i or T2i.

If you're buying new, you'd be hard pressed to find a T1i at a retail outlet. You'd be able to find T2i's brand new. Both are great cameras to get started with. Nikon D3100 is also a great starter camera if you want to go even cheaper, and the D5000/5100 being the step up (and closer to a T2i in terms of specs).

Personally, as you're new to it all, I'd buy a used setup. There are a ton of people who get into it, buy brand new, and end up selling after a few months because they realized it was just a phase for them. At the very least, buy a used body, and invest your money on lenses if you think you may be in it for the long haul. That's where you'll see tangible differences in your pictures.

definitely t2i>t1i for the sensor. or the d5100. i started with a 350D that i got and sold for the same boxing day price. it will take you a while to appreciate more expensive lenses that you will decide to keep tho. i think it's good to go used so you are sure this is something you want to pursue.

Need some camera advice.

Thoughts on a Panasonic GF2 w/14mm kit lens? For anyone who has played with one, how does it perform? It would probably require another lens for everyday use right?

Doesn't really answer your question but it might help.

I was also on the market for a m43 after selling my 50D. I was looking to buy the GF2 but was turned off by the lenses it came with because I had my eyes set on the Lumix 20mm 1.7 lens.

Did some research and found a brand new GF3 (body only) for $300 from a trusted eBay seller and had it shipped to the states for cheaper shipping costs.

Panasonic Lumix GF3 Body Only (Black) *NEW* | eBay

I separately bought the Lumix 20mm 1.7 at B&H photo for only $340.

WIN!

is the D7000 too much for a beginner?
im looking to buy second hand, what should i watch out for?

im looking to get into it, but its more for my girlfriend too. she took univ courses with some photography classes as electives and she finally wants to get one for herself, so im thinking i can double up to buy one for her, and play with it myself too.

imo the d7000 isn't too much for a beginner. you wouldn't need to consider any other body for a long time. it doesn't hurt to get an older DLSR used (i.e. d40, d90) and just resell it afterwards though. that way you wouldn't be losing out much.

My local Future Shop has a Olympus E-P2 open box special for $300. I was hoping to find a used SLR body, but pickings are fairly slim. The P2 isn't a SLR, but after reading reviews it supposedly stacks up to an entry-level SLR fairly well.

Is it worth it to buy as a starter? It's like $800 new.

Keep in mind that I'm upgrading from a 6 year-old HP point-and-shoot that has quality worse than my HTC phone camera.

want a quick opinion while i can still return/exchange my camera.

Should i return my Nex5n for the Nex7?

I like the 5n over all a lot! But i'd like having a built in viewfinder.
Add $400 for the optional EVF, and its practically the price of buying the Nex7 body!

I am by no means a "pro" photographer or anything like that. Ive only had point-and-shoot cameras in the past, and wanting to have a "good" camera now and for the next few years.

Reasons why i bought the 5N was because the Nex7 wasnt available, and main focus was because of its size given its ability to produce quality pics/vids!

what would u do in my shoes??

Now that the canon 5d mark III is coming out, would anyone advise for the mark II for filming and varying photography or is it better to go for the Nikon equivalent?

5Dm2 is plenty of camera. There is no Nikon equivalent for video, unless it's the new D800.

5Dm2 is a great camera for the money right now.

Since I'm not able to work for a while cause of my accident. Its time for me to find a new hobby during my free time And Ive chosen photography. Haven't really touched a DSLR since highschool so Im pretty noob at this

I'm currently trying to learn again on my old Canon EOS Rebel XT
But I was wondering if I should upgrade cameras or just keep learning on my Rebel XT and then upgrade once I feel comfortable enough with my photography skills. What are your opinions guys?
