I read that the t1i is still pretty good in capturing 720p which I think will be my norm. I tried editing with 1080 and my iMac cant handle it. But of course the sound is still pretty important.

t2i can do 60FPS in 720P though if that's a selling point for you


spend a few hours on youtube lots of comparisons. If you're doing video though I'd go t2i/t3i just for the newer processor and more video features.

The lens that comes with the t2i isn't that great anyways so just buy a body only, and then if you need a kit lens you can always find them on craigslist, or I have one that I'd be willing to part with

I would get a used body if I were you. If you get one for a fair price (market price), you won't be losing a lot of money if you want to sell the body in 6 months or so. That's if you take care of it, etc.

But which one though... Seems that its best to get a new one instead with the price I'm seeing in CL

Looking for an older d2x....can somebody help point me into the right direction?...i dont mind ordering from oversea sources; dont mind used either.

I really want a Canon 1D MKIV, i have a 7D right now. I want better AF and low light capability. Better image quality too. I like birding, nature, and sport photography. What will the 1D do better than the 7D? I'm not a n00b, and know about the 1D but would like to know how much better it is than the 7D.

The 1DmkIV is more responsive than the 7D for sure, but other than the faster frame rate and slightly better IQ, I don't know if the extra cost is justifiable. I would say AF tracking performance is about the same from my experience. The camera is more customizable so it can take longer to set up for what you need it to do, but it can work well once it is. I can bring one out for you to try - I'm free on Sunday and some weekday evenings. :)

LOL, at your last sentence! Is the D4 that wonderful? Should i make the switch? lol, not going to happen! Invested too much in Canon already.

The reason why I wanted the MKIV is it seems that i'm not getting very good AF tracking with my 7D+500. It will loose focus very easy on objects, even static sometimes (people ect) and not focus on what I want. Even with single point AF, center, corners, middle AF everything. I'm not too sure if it's the camera, or my technique. It's not just the 500 either, it seems all of my lenses the camera has a hard time focusing on what I want. The "amazing" AF of the 7D is the reason I got it almost 2.5 years ago and it hasn't delivered as much as i'd hoped. I'm not one to take a few shots and say the camera is shit, i've had it for a long time and it doesn't always deliver. Maybe 1-2 shots in 10 in AI servo will be okay. I do get some good shots out of it, but not as consistent as I would expect from such a highly touted camera. Or maybe my expectations are too high...

do you guys have any advice for buying a USED camera? I am looking at used cameras at the moment on CL, if I go check some of them out what would be good "tests" to ensure the camera is functioning properly? Looking at EVIL cameras.

-visual inspections (lens, body, straps, screen)
-no dead pixels
-make sure zoom works 100%
-do you check number of actuations?
-do you test macro, low light, high shutter speed, etc????
-etc...?

^^^ It would depend if you're going to use the added features, but I don't think the image quality is going to be a whole lot better. That new 15-135 lens looks like it's not too bad. I'll give you an honest answer next week when I get my hands on one.

Anybody have any experience/recommendations with budget waterproof cameras? (< $200) Doesn't need to take phenomenal photos, but needs to be waterproof! Just want a camera to bring with me on holidays when we're kayaking, tubing, occasional snorkelling etc. Most of the reviews of the ones <$200 seem to indicate that the waterproof fails quite frequently.

Get yourself a Go-Pro! their pictures aren't as good, but they'll be better for action sports videos.

Unfortunately the existing GoPro's are crap for underwater shots. The lens focuses on the external casing instead of what it's supposed to be filming. They just released a fix for it in the form of a new case, but it's an extra $50.

We sell the XP10's and 20's at work and I've yet to have one come back from a failed waterproofing issue. A couple friends have taken them out with them to do some underwater shooting and the picture quality seems decent. Not great, but good enough.
