Did you pick it up from YVR yesterday night?
I think I know exactly who you bought it from haha. Good job, he barely used it and he bought it brand new very recently

still couldn't pull a trigger on one of the compact cameras. I've had a look at several: pm1, gf3, j1, but I like the j1 the most. Anyone know typically how much cheaper the older models will get considering the j2 is coming out in September?

^^^ also don't forget about that new Canon mirrorless system.
Tried a Panasonic G5, and I think it's a great little camera. The JPEG files are much nicer than the GH2, but as the RAW files cannot be opened by Lightroom, I don't have an opinion on ultimate image quality.

I actually looked at the Sony nex too, it's a possibility too. I know the picture qualities are pretty good, but the only drawback I have with them is the size of the lenses. I actually didn't know about the canon until you mentioned it. You guys think I should hold off until September when all the new ones come out first? Because I'm on a pretty tight budget with this buy.

Just bought a Sony Nex 5n for the mother in law, and its a very nice camera! Would like to get one for myself! The biggest benefit being the larger sensor than 4/3, Nikon J's, and quite a few of the other cameras. It is a bit bigger than alot of other compacts, but its quality. I don't shoot much video, and haven't heard any ticks yet.

If you are not in a rush for a new camera then September is only few weeks away.
Should you wait until September, then you benefit from either the latest and greatest models or a bargain price on the current models. A win-win situation for you.

Didn't realized that Aug was almost over haha and just hope it isn't near the end of September. Not really in a rush, but just that I've been holding on the buy for months. But for the benefit you mentioned, I'll wait a few more weeks. Just curious, did Canada ever got white nex5n?

Check that the shutter & light meter are working properly, and also the aperture blades of the lens are snappy.

its time for me to upgrade my d90 because i just passed 80k actuations and am a bit insecure about it dying on me soon. definitely need a more powerful body with better low light capabilities.
would be nice if i can have some non canon/nikon biased advice on what to get
money isnt an issue but id like to save as much as i can as im saving up for a car too. recently fell in love with L lenses and nikon lenses like the 35mm 1.4G, 24-70, holy trinity etc. i already have nikon 80-200mm 2.8, 50mm 1.4, and a bunch of nikon lenses. i think im going to get a cheap body but would you guys recommend staying nikon or going canon? wont cheap out on lenses though. i dont know much about canons but so far from all the L lenses ive tried out its been an awesome experience. if i stay nikon what lenses should i get? thanks in advance guys.

I personally own a Canon DSLR (600D) with some older L-Glass (28-80 f2.8-4 , 80-200 f2.8)
Canon bodies seem to be a lot heavier, and have much less dedicated controls compared to Nikon bodies. At the same time, Nikon consumer glass seems to be much better than Canon consumer glass.
Whether or you you change systems depends on what segment you're looking to upgrade to and what you'll be using the body for.
If you're looking at crop bodies, both the D7000 and 7D are getting long in the tooth. Which one you might end up buying will depend on the updates that both manufacturers perform.
If you're looking at full frame cameras, the D700 definitely has good low light performance, but the 5D Mk II shoots much better video.
-The D800 will probably require hefty computer hardware to go along with the gigantic raw files (Your Macbook Pro probably won't do...)
-The 5D Mk III is an incremental upgrade, and does indeed have much better autofocus and burst speed than the Mk II, but from what your portfolio seems to consist of, that probably won't be an issue
-You can also take a look at the new D600 and 6D which are both full frame. From what I've read online, the D600 seems to be the better of the two
Whoops! Just saw that you're looking for cheap bodies
The 60D and 7D technically cross compete on price with the D7000/D300 - The 60D has the same sensor as the 7d, but is cheaper and does not have as many professional features
With the cheaper bodies (e.g. d5100) , lens compatibility starts to become an issue with Nikon bodies depending on what glass you're using.
The advantage with Canon is that all EF lenses are guaranteed to work with auto metering, autofocus, aperture control, etc.

Hey guys! New to photography and have no idea what the eff I am doing lol. I've come across an Olympus E-420 17-45 DSLR camera that I was interested in. I know its an older model camera but for someone like me that doesn't know much about cameras I think this may be a good entry level DSLR til I can move up to the big leagues.
Thoughts/concerns/comments? Should I avoid it or go for it?
I'm going to be mostly taking pictures of my basement suites for rent - to put better pics than the iphone 3g ones I have been taken lol
Taking pictures of my dogs/cars/scenery of sorts/people
Anything that I will gain with this camera that is important/or that I will lose with this camera in terms of features/future use?
Cheers

Is anyone as excited for the Nex-5R release? The estimated price tag (670 GBP) seems a little steep for what you're getting, but I like the asthetic improvements over the 5N (which I currently own). The added thumbwheel is helpful, but I wish they added 2 like the Nex-7. The new location of the REC button is also a massive improvement, I don't know how many times I accidently click that when taking my camera out of the bag

if you guys had the choice over T3i VS T4i at around $120 more at like $699, is it worth it for a begginer, i'm the type of person who can pick things up very quickly if they continue to interest me and i'm very technically savy/electronics so will i run into a time where i'm held back with a T4i as a casual/moderate user?
