I flew with Cathay Pacific since I wanted to visit HK after Japan, so it was a little more expensive than flying to Japan alone ... around 1300 taxes in.

www.kayak.com to compare prices

I used www.studentuniverse.com when flying to Korea before. It was cheap with them but you had to be a student.

You won't find cheap flights to PDX. The route in itself isn't very popular. You can try Amtrak as there are two trains daily from Vancouver Pacific Central station to PDX Amtrak Station. It's a Cascades train which is neat but it's a solid 7 hour ride each way. Good luck!

reviving an old thread

everytime i book flights i wanna rip my hair out
so many different websites such as flight hub, BA website etc have multiple intenaries available until you get to the very end of your info filling (name/CC/etc) THEN it tells you that the one or more flights are no longer available. You call in and they'll tell you they can only see the same thing on their computer.

There must be a more stress-free way to get around this...

BTW Google Flights is weird...for example I tried booking a multi-city reservation and 1 ticket is cheaper than booking 2...2 is more expensive than booking 4.

So i try to book 1 ticket at a time, when i get around to the 2nd ticket the prices shoots up

HALP!

This is actually extremely common. It has nothing to do with 2 seats being more expensive than 1, but has to do with the fact that there are probably a dozen economy fare buckets, each more expensive than the previous, with only a certain number of seats left in each one.

For example, a flight may have 20 physical seats left in economy, but they are broken down like this:
Fare group X: 2 seats @ $700
Fare group Y: 1 seat @ $800
Fare group Z: 17 seats @ $900

In this case, one seat would be $700, two seats would be $1400, three seats would be $2200, and four seats would be $3100, if that makes sense.

thanks for the explanation
I only book flights once or twice a year.
I was told prices are a bit higher during peak hours of the day and cheaper in the morning and late night? I've noticed if you search multiple times the prices can creep up too

I have heard that before but in all honesty, I do lots of booking flights for work and do lots of research before I book looking at flight loads for upgrade purposes, etc. and have never seen them fluctuate. Others claim they have, not really sure what the reality of that is.

i recommend priceline.com

got x 2 tix flight to colorado for 166 each round trip =) tax included.
cheap considering it usually costs x2 more

you could also bid for ticket prices&hotels, but once they agree to it you have to pay upfront on the website. pretty good though LOL

they even offer car rental for as low as $5/day

do tell! You look for flights with lots of 1st class/business vacancies? Are you booking last minute, otherwise how do you know it wont fill up?

Yes, and I also look at the same flights this week, next week, and see what they look like right before they depart in terms of availability as most of my flights are YVR-YYZ-YVR which are very regular routes and follow pretty well defined patterns. It's only really relevant if you have a method of upgrading, i.e. status, otherwise no point in doing such - they are not going to upgrade you just because you ask nicely and there is space.
