1. most of us live in the city, there are no ranges anywhere in short driving range, unlike a starbucks on every block
2. there is no gun culture in vancouver (more out in the boonies like my buddy in prince george where everyone owns atleast 2+ firearms). The only gun culture are the ones shooting each other up in their bmw's and escalades.
3. RS = high asian male population = live at home until married = mom will kick their @ss if they ever brought a glock17 home as a hobby. The feather duster is mightier than any bullet.

Ive spent a lot of time in gun stores and to be honest, around Vancouver it IS the Asian population who buys the majority of guns. Last time i was in the store there were 4 different Asian men in the store and they all walked out with a gun purchase.

Where are the gun stores located ?

I can't seem to find any that you can actually walk in and make a purchase.
(not carry out right away of course, but at least you can see it and buy it.)

Italian Sporting Goods
Reliable Gun

Those are the 2 stores i deal with locally.
As for purchasing, you cant purchase till you have your PAL.

That is true.
I don't go to them as there stock on most items is not very high and there prices seem off compared to others but there staff are very helpful.

I got my PAL this summer and went out and bought a Mossberg Pump action shotgun. Unfortunately it broke within 50 shots and I have been waiting two months now for a part to come in. I also bought a Remington 700 sps 300 Win Mag, brand new, and the gun wont fire. So I'm taking it into Reliable to get looked at, and hopefully go to the poco range after and get it sighted.

Probably gonna get a membership in Mission, they have a 400 yard range.

Bought a Ruger 10/22LR today and took it along with my Rem 300 winmag to the Poco range today. Had lots of fun shooting , just wish the 300 ammo was as cheap as the .22 ammo.

I just sold my 870 this week... it was the first gun I ever bought, I'll miss it

I was told there is a 2 day course that I can take to get my Non Restricted and Restricted Licence. Anyone have any info on that? I've shot a few times with cousins in the US (Glock 19s to bad its 5mm too short to be legal in here). I would like to get my licence but I would like to know how many ranges allow pistols (I think the gun club in Richmond only allows Rifles?). Also is it true when hunting or camping you can't bring a pistol but rifles are ok?? Just want to justify if its worth it...but I kinda want one if the world goes crazy lol.

I should dig out my grandpa's old Lee-Enfield .303 British the next time I'm up north at our cabin. I think my sister still has some rounds for it (she used to do firearms training at the Justice Institute).

I got my licence with that guy, he runs the course out of his house in Cloverdale.
Pistols and other restricted firearms are only allowed to go from your house to the gun range. If you need to take it to get it fixed and want to take it to the gun store you need to get a special permit. Unless you have a special carry permit (ie back country archeologists) you are not allowed to take a gun camping. If you do and get caught you will loose your licence, gun and receive a hefty fine and criminal record.

Its much more fun shooting a rifle at targets over 200 meters or shooting clays with a shotgun rather than just shooting a pistol at targets 25 meters away.

Ooh, never seen this thread before. I just bought a p226 about a month ago, and those 9mm bullets cost a lot. Planning to get a .22 for more practice, although im not sure which im getting though.
Whats some good sites for reading on canadian laws and laws about importing/buying from the US? Google didn't help me much.

Soundy 11-02-2010 08:06 AM

Ok Got my PAL, and some money burning in my pocket. I've decided having a Pistol is a pain in the ass since its a restricted firearm. Thinking of picking up a CZ828 since its Nonrestricted and surplus ammo is relatively cheap, also lots of decent aftermarket stuff for it and it looks kinda like an AK. Any thoughts about this rifle?
