Globalive's network is coming along. They're slowly hiring their staff at the moment but only key players i.e. senior/junior management. Anything to do with network deployment and customer support is up in the air at the moment. We probably won't be seeing a network for a while, until at least 2010 at the earliest. We don't know what their strategy will be like. Ask anybody in the telecom industry and they will tell you that Globalive will be just like Fido - launch a network overnight, throw out a crazy plan that offers unlimited calling for $20 then sell off your network to evil Rogers or Telus or WHY.
Again, this is just the prediction within the industry itself. There is no feasibility as to how Globalive can sustain themselves in such a competitive market. Every consumer out there believes they're the angel of wireless providers; they're not. The social habits of Canadian consumers is always to jump ship and to go with whoever can offer you "the best deal" but who is to say Globalive will be the provider of choice?
As far as insider industry information goes, I know Globalive will be using Alcatel-Lucent as their core network equipment provider. Globalive has been blessed by financial backing by Alcatel-Lucent but as far as their UTRAN network goes, I don't know who it will be, be it Nokia-Siemens, Ericsson (unlikely), Nortel, or Alcatel-Lucent but chances are, Alcatel-Lucent. This will be interesting because a lot of the staff will likely consist of ex-Nortel employees and recycled people currently within the industry itself from other providers.
