I basically rate movies like this:

1-3 = not worth watching.
4 = complete garbage, but maybe the odd interesting or funny moment
5 = worth sitting thru, but barely. would only watch if it was on TV.
6 = entertaining but doesnt offer anything beyond that. a few funny or wow moments. overall, worth watching, but not a first choice. would consider renting it.
7 = decent movie overall, good entertainment, a enough funny/wow moments. would recommend it, but probably wouldn't remember it in a year. theater quality, but lacks the parts necessary to make it a great movie.
8 = overall, a real good movie. good acting, visuals, plot, etc. would definitely recommend it. might have a few things to walk away thinking about or talk about.
9 = nearly a perfect movie. great acting, visuals, fantastic story. probably many parts to walk away thinking about and talking about with your friends. definitely going to post about it on RS. probably one of those movies that will take a second watch to pick up on missed parts to put it all together.
10 = absolutely top of the pile movies. epics that you might go home and dream about. leaves you talking or interneting about it for weeks. blows your mind with the story, acting, and entertainment. can go back and watch it again and again. holds its own over time.
11/10 = a 10/10 movie with a fair amount of boobs.

this is just IMO:

10: shawshank redemption, godfather, lord of the rings, etc
9.5: inception, avatar
9: dark knight, saving private ryan
8.5: terminator 2, departed, transformers (at the time)
8: inglorious basterds, sin city, tropic thunder
7: transformers 2, spiderman, most summer blockbuster movies, etc

casino 1998 (hk movie biography about A 14k boss) 6.5/10

black swan 8.2/10

Godfather Part II 9.4/10
definately on par with the original if not even slightly better...i can see how this is critically acclaimed to be the best sequel of all time.
could be shorter though IMO...was almost 3.5 hours long

The Godfather: Part II [9.5/10]

Loved it. Personally preferred Part I though, which I thought was near-perfect.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps [ 6.9/10 ]

Slow start, great middle + climax, cheesy ending. A plus if you understand/took some economics. Haha

probably one of the worst "comedies" ive ever seen, trailer and title was false advertisement

Black Swan - 7/10 - good cinematography, good acting by Natalie Portman, although I don't know if it's necessarily deserving of Best Actress. It was entertaining enough, although my girl friend and I both out of the movie thinking "wtf was that". Slightly overhyped

Tangled - 9/10 - been disappointed with non-Pixar Disney movies as of late but this one was great and the music was awesome, reminiscent of the older Disney songs. Who knew Zachary Levi (CHUCK!) could sing? :)

Blue Valentine - 7.5-8/10 - great acting by Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams, sad story. You probably wouldn't want to see this with a boyfriend/girlfriend as it gets pretty depressing.

No Strings Attached - 7/10 - saw the screener tonight. Better than I thought it would be, I've seen way worse romantic comedies. Quite a few funny moments. Good date movie. Natalie Portman is hot. That is all.
