Not what I expected at all. Strong acting cast, especially Gosling who probably has the fewest lines of any main character in a movie. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.
As for the "Drive" soundtrack, it's clear that Trent Reznor and Daft Punk have changed how soundtracks are done... In the case of Daft Punk, their movie would have been unwatchable without the soundtrack
Pretty neat to see two of my favourite musicians making such a huge splash in other areas of media

I though this film was really in two films: The first being a very subdued yet powerful slice of family and kinship. Nothing is said, yet so much is conveyed through looks and gestures. Moments like these are given such a dream like quality through impressive use of cinimatography and very good use of natural light.
The tone shifts suddenly darker in one pivitol robbery gone wrong. Soon the character conducts himself extremely violently, killing individuals in extremely gorey fashion. Even here, despite the over the top use of blood and guts, the violence still had a stillness to it. It made each of every scene more visceral than the next.
What I liked about Gosling's performance was that his character rarely spoke at all. Yet you could tell from his eyes and his body language how he really felt in every situation. Whether it was the kind looks towards the mother and child, or the unbridled rage he felt towards his enemies, nothing was overtly stated. Ultimately I love this kind of films that dont just show affection or hate through dialogue or dramatic gestures.
tilt your head back and using your hand pretend to shake a salt shaker in your mouth... you will notice that it will actually taste like salt in your mouth..
