^It's not quite that far, but there definitely is a lack of character development. It's to be expected since we already know the back-story of Caesar et al. That said, I would've liked a little bit more on the human backstory, but they seemed to conveniently tie it with a bow and present you with what's left.
It's still worth a watch if you liked the first movie. I rated it pretty much equal to the first, but as you suspected there's less character and more action.
If it keeps getting really good feedback I might check it out. Transformers was as bad as I expected (actually probably even worse, with the propaganda thrown in), but if I'm sceptical about a movie and it gets great feedback, I'll give it a chance.
Planet of the Apes - 6.5/10 I was expecting more with the good reviews.
Brick Mansion - 3/10 Had to fast forward when I got about halfway through just to be able to finish, steaming piece of dogshit IMO.

Not quite what I was expecting (I had only seen TV ads years ago) but still enjoyed it surprisingly. A lot of it is VERY OBVIOUSLY Wes Anderson which kind of bugged me, but he clearly likes directing in a very similar way for his movies.
The new Planets of the Apes movie is fantastic. I'm not sure what you guys are talking about giving it 6.5/10. Both on rotten tomatoes and user reviews are over 91% average.

For me the movie was a little to predictable. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie and was glad I went to see it but certain parts of the movie I can see coming from a mile away.
The special effects in this movie are awesome. Some shots of the apes looked so real. I always thought cgi currently was a little behind as you can tell when things are "cgi" usually. But no this movie. However with that said, the movie seemed a bit too ape-y if that makes sense. Even though it's the planet of the apes movie

I hated transformers soo much. I lost my shit when halfway thru an action scene he awkwardly cracked and drank a beer just so they could show the label

Transcendence 6.5/10
Johnny Depps recent film that bombed, it was actually quite good, it felt a little dated though as it didn't have some modern tech used in there but I guess they didn't want it to seem too much like skynet/terminator. Which is understandable but it did give the impression that it was lacking and or tight on budget (which it wasn't. $100mill)
