Mockingjay pt.1

3/10. Nothing like the trailers. They couldn't even get a cliffhanger right on this one.

Boyhood (2014)

Just... really really good.

quasi 12-13-2014 06:16 PM

Gone Girl 8/10 - It kept me interested until the end but I didn't love the ending.

Yodamaster 12-13-2014 08:25 PM

The Equalizer (2014)

I'd give it a solid 7/10

It's one of those movies where the story is "good enough", it has it's cliche moments, enjoyable overall.

The wind rises 8.5/10, another great Hayao Mizayaki film

After The Fall - 5/10
Fury - 6.75/10
The Equalizer - 7/10
Horrible Bosses 2 - 7/10
Lucy - 7/10

Barefoot - 8.75/10 (Enjoyed this movie, similar feel to Silver Linings Playbook)

The Man From Nowhere.

The dramatic parts were a bit overdramatic for me. That includes the core crime. It could've been any other crime actually, but the one used seemed forced for shock value. Otherwise, the overall story is quite similar to The Professional, just in Korean. Action choreography was top notch though- similar feel to The Raid, but less pretty martial arts and more just "bone-breaking" here.

And another thing- why are all "second-in-command BAD guys" in Asian movies always foreign nationals? lol

7/10

In what world do you rate Lucy higher than Fury?

The Intouchables 10/10 - Probably one of the best movies I've ever seen. Someone recommended it a few pages back so I decided to check it out. Amazing writing, beautiful character dynamic, tons of emotions were felt throughout the movie. I hate subtitles with a passion but it didn't bother me in the slightest.

Enemy 2/10 - Weird, slow, weird

Guardians of the Galaxy 8/10 - Fun, exciting, cool visuals, funny characters. Overall enjoyable

I usually enjoy war movies, especially when they are set in the WW2 era. However, the plot in Fury was quite weak, and there were no moments in the movie that really "wowed" me. The final fight scene was disappointing and unrealistic in my opinion. It is still a movie that I would recommend, but it does not live up to it's hype.

Lucy reminded me of the movie Limitless, which is why I probably gave it a slightly higher rating. I liked the concept that they were trying to introduce in the movie. While the first half was pretty good, I will admit the last half of the movie was disappointing.

Could have done with a little less condescension there...

I suppose everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

However, Lucy has got to be one of the worst movies I have ever watched. I agree the beginning held promise but holy crap did that go downhill in hurry.

Top Five

decent movie but wasn't really that funny imo

5/10

GLOW 12-17-2014 07:07 AM

Dredd (remake)
6/10 the movie dragged on 3/4 of the way through

winson604 12-17-2014 09:55 AM

The Equalizer 7/10 as well

Typical good guy sees something they don't like and decides to take matters into his own hands and dish it out to the bad guys. With that said, action was decent, pace was good, and I enjoyed it. Movie isn't going to wow anyone but it's a decent 2hrs.

The equalizer 7.5/10

The Exodus - 7/10 non-3D

The Hobbit - Battle of the Five Armies 8.5/10

The battles were done extremely well and it was just an enjoyable movie overall. Can't believe the saga has finally ended.

The final parts of the movie hit me right in the feels.

SpeedStars 12-19-2014 06:51 PM

Dumb and Dumber 2 : 2/10 it was the largest piece of shit I have ever watched. If there weren't people sitting on the sides I would have walked out

twitchyzero 12-19-2014 11:54 PM

the equalizer 7/10
lucy 5.5/10

Ninja Turtles 2014 0/10

Not worth the time it took to watch

Went on a b-movie kick the other night.

Iron Sky: 7/10
Having actually given money to the production of this film, I figured it was about time to actually watch it. I knew it was going to be a cheesy b-grade movie, so that's what I expected getting into it, but was surprisingly decent and not as terrible as I had expected. Pretty good CGI, decent acting (including a couple of rather well known German actors), and a plot that wasn't actually terrible. Would highly recommend for a night of drinking with friends.

Dabangg 2: 8/10
There's something about Bollywood movies that I love, and this one in particular is no exception. Maybe it's the dramatic camera angles and sweeps, maybe it's the exaggerated acting, maybe it's the random musical interludes, or maybe it's just a combination of everything that manages to create a highly amusing film. The plot in this one is fairly lacking and it gets a little confusing when random characters get introduced and then not fleshed out, but it's still a great movie to watch if you just want to kill a couple hours and still stay amused.
