Same boat ?/10 - I couldn't decide if it was brilliant or annoying. Definitely interesting though.

Black Mass 6/10 maybe my expectations were too high... johnny though

Everest 10/10 saw this in Singapore on "Asia's Largest Screen" so that score is relating more to how awesome it looked on the huge screen rather than for the story

Sicario 7/10 could have been better, some points kind of annoyed me, but all in all it was an awesome film, just a warning though don't expect an action film.. it's tone is kind of like True Detective, where it's slow but engaging

Sicario 8/10 - I really enjoyed it. Good amount of tension throughout the film keeps you engaged. Only reason I wouldn't rate it higher is the story isn't amazing.

What I'm sure of is that every shot was fantastic visually, and the performances were mostly great.

It is just kind of disappointing because PT Anderson's first few movies are among my all time favourites. I know he wants to do different things but I wish he could make another ensemble movie with another amazing set of cast and characters

Martian was good but not as good as say interstellar.
His character gave me no reason to get emotionally attached to him. I never felt as if he was in any danger as well.

8/10

Southpaw 8/10 Was a very good film I thought. Kept me engaged and really felt connected to the main character. Jake Gyllenhaal and Forest Whittaker are a couple of my favorite actors

The Martian 6/10

It was good, and the time went by quickly, but it was just straight forward, everything had an almost immediate solution. you know how a normal story has an inciting incident, rising action, etc, etc, climax? well this just seemed flat all the way through...yet i still enjoyed it

i guess to put it short ''meh " (with a smile)

it was on tv last night. actually not bad, thought it would be unwatchable. silly comedy but had more then enough redeeming moments and no groaners.

The Martian 8/10

I thought it was REALLY good. It was a nice relief from some of the shitty action movies I've been putting myself through, like Avengers 2 and San Andreas. I'm really big on realism in movies lately, and the closer a movie can be to realism, the more I'll like it. I appreciated that they didn't cram a lame love story into it either.

Also it was nice to watch a movie and not be blasted with advertising that I paid to see. I felt like applauding when someone drank from a takeout coffee cup and it didn't have a fucking Starbucks logo on it.

I actually liked that the movie wasn't just a bunch of stunts and close escapes one after another. Instead, they built a pretty nice story about space exploration, and humankind in general.

The scene

Spoiler!

was really powerful, and one of the best in an action/sci fi movie I can recall.

Of course it couldn't be a modern movie without...

Spoiler!

But hey, they gotta do what they gotta do, right?

Pitch Perfect 2 - 5.5/10

Started off ok with the best part being the acapella-off with David Cross, but story drops drastically downhill from there.

Sicario- 8.5/10

Pretty tense. I do like the shift in focus for the characters involved. As previously mentioned it is generally slow but definitely not boring.

Saw The Martian and StylinRed's review nailed it.

Also looked at The Gambler on Netflix and enjoyed this film as well. Mark Wahlberg stepped out of his generic role for this one and impressed me.

I do have to point out one thing I found annoying on this front. Apparently NASA uses go pro's...

Aside from that the movie was decent, a little long, although that could also have to do with the fact that I saw it at like an 11pm showing.

8/10

Tomorrowland 8/10

I actually really liked it! I just wish they did a few things differently and that the ending wasn't so straightforward/simple but overall I enjoyed it

Would rather they concentrated on 'Kid' Clooney though, i believe that would have made for a better flick, maybe if they had made enough money to do a prequel (not anymore though since it bombed)

The Demolisher from VIFF

Canadian film, filmed in Toronto

Good premise, terrible delivery. I thought it would be similar to a standard revenge movie, like Drive (which was very good) but it was just terribly done overall. I think the movie wants to you partially view the main character as an anti-hero who you can sympathize to, but he ends up being an emotional psychopath. The worst thing is that the movie ends with the main character, overseeing the city, pretty much implying that he is a hero of sorts.

4/10

Not worth your time
Really disappointing because this is the first time I've watched any VIFF movie

Terminator Genisys 8/10 rated based on Terminator series... I may like this more than T2... if you like Terminator or just Action movies in general, you should really enjoy this

My favourite being Salvation...

SPY 7/10 it was corny but amusingly passed the time, glad I didn't see it in theatres, would have been a waste of a ticket, but with nothing to do at home, t was golden

Me, Earl, and the dying girl 6/10

Don't get why this film is getting so much buzz. The director blatantly rips off Wes Anderson's style to the point where it detracted from the experience; however, the last 30 or so minutes of the film is quite good.
