It was a solid 8 up until the final confrontation. This was probably the latest villain in any of the Marvel movies.
Other than that, it was a really enjoyable theater experience. Now this is what you need to do if you're going to to go all the way with CG. make sure the rest of the movie's universe fits in, and don't try to be too grounded when not in goofball mode.
The physics and time bending effects have been done before, but these were really exciting and fun.
使徒行者 the movie
(the line walker)
it was based on the highest rating TVB drama in hk, they made a movie version.
the script wasn't bad, few action scene, acting was great esp. for 張家輝 Nick Cheung. Maybe because we kept on seeing him in weird ass funny movies, he had dimension with great depth.
script is epic confusion at the very end so i'm still having a tough time to digest.
Movie was actually filmed in Brazil (unlike hollywood which were shot in green screens instead), HK director spent 7 figures (in HK dollars) for 24/7 protection.
The Hateful Eight 2/10 - Maybe it's just me but I thought it was terrible. Didn't even finish it. If is wasn't for Jennifer Jason Leigh dropping N-bombs everywhere I would have turned it off sooner. Maybe I'll try it again in a year or so.
ARQ 8.5/10 - Great storyline and the ending is awesome.
Trance 7/10 - Danny boyle movie, it was good, but not great.
I'm the pretty little thing that lives in the house - 9/10 - had an old school horror vibe to it that I really liked, not for everyone. Movie starts out really slow.
Cabin Fever (remake) 5/10 - much hotter girls, but shouldn't have been re-done anyways.

anyone seen the arrival yet, the reviews are quite high.
Went to Scotiabank Theatre at 1pm yesterday thinking it wouldn't be sold out (checked the night before and it was fine). 2, 4 and 7 showings all sold out. Was pretty choked and I'm going to try and catch it this week.
I've been pretty excited for this movie for a while and it makes me happy to see that it seems to be living up to the hype. All reviews seem to point to a 10/10 experience.
Dr. Strange 8.5/10 - Loved the visuals, good acting, good story, better than average humor(marvel humor sucks usually IMO). 3D experience only added to the entertainment. A great watch in the theatre.
Sausage Party 9/10 - Wow, make a show animated and use food instead of people and you can be as racist and prejudice and sexiest as you want. I was laughing pretty much the whole time. Firewater was off the chain funny. I couldn't believe the last 5 minutes, wow; just wow. Worth the watch for sure.

yup, the last 5 minutes was like WTFFFF totally couldn' tbe done if it was normal movie.
HOLY fuck what a great movie.
cast is nothing special. The only guy you'll recognize is the blind man in the movie. He's the guy that played the general (old white hair guy) in Avator.
You might know the director if you do watch horror films but i doubt it. 10 million budget and box office sleeper success.
Don't watch the trailer, just go watch it.
3 kid breaks into a blind man's house and shit goes crazy. Not a horror film, but it's intense with some action, scary moments and a few "twist" at the end. LITERALLY you are on your seat until the very very end. Just when you think there's more director throws you another bit.
Arrival - 9/10 for me and the GF, but my cousin absolutely hated it. It's very slow paced (deliberately) so if you have a short attention span you're gonna hate it.
Hacksaw Ridge - 9/10. Probably one of the best war-scenes in recent memory, good directing. Storyline is incredible considering it really happened. IMDB says a lot of stuff that happened in real life didn't make it into the movie because the director thought people would just not believe it.

Not true IMO. Each scene has meaning towards the plot, the story is not slow at all.
If you're expecting action then yes maybe you won't enjoy it -- but still I find it hard for anyone to not enjoy this movie. I was thinking about this movie for hours after watching it.
It's slow paced in the sense that shit isn't blowing up -- which is what some people want lol. If they expected aliens tearing off limbs and spaceships going pew pew they're going to hate it.
The GF and I enjoyed it thoroughly, although we ended up arguing over the whole
Spoiler!
time travel conundrum thing.
She argued that the future is not set, and the 'visions' are just one possible future, and that she may change the future by changing her actions - which is the premise for a lot of time travel movies.
My argument was that if the vision was seen, it will happen - more like a prophecy.
The basis of this argument was the scene where Amy Adams asks Jeremy Renner, towards the end of the movie, if you know the future would you still do something. This implies that the future is a choice. And we argued a bit there haha
Time is a flat circle in this movie. Time to the aliens is the present, past and future -- they view time all at once. So Amy Adams wasn't really "seeing" the future, she was living it which means she wouldn't be able to change the future.
A few examples to back this up:
-When Costello tells Amy that "Abbot is in death process" -- that's not past, present, or future tense. Abbot already knew he was going to die when he showed up to meet them when the bomb was planted.
-What the aliens said to the Russians who misinterpreted "There is no time, use weapon". They're telling the Russians time doesn't exist and to use the weapon which is the language they gave them.
It seems like SOMEONE involved wanted to make a cool movie, but producers said nope, this has to be an ensemble comic book action movie with every fucking trope you can imagine.
The title card and end credit design were by far the best part of the movie.

While mostly I agree with you, that brings up other conundrums.
Spoiler!
In death process, implies that Abbott is both dead and alive. What you said sounds like it's directly from a reddit thread I read recently, but yeah.
I realize their perception of time is different but I'm still trying to wrap my head around it haha.
Anyway back onto reviewing other recent movies. I'm still waiting for reviews of fantastic beasts lol
arrival didnt score that high for me. the epiphany that you're supposed to have just wasn't heavy enough... it's like... okay. i coulda guessed that... so whens the "OMG" gonna happen? i give it 7/10.
shoulda gone seen hacksaw ridge lol. can't go wrong with a war movie.
2.5hrs flew by, really well scripted. I just couldnt stand the acting of the main girl
